The Western Australian Farmers Federation has welcomed moves by the Department of Agriculture to monitor and assist in managing animal welfare on farms.

No they don't need to defend themselves in court, if they look after their animals in the right way. Muelsing, caged chooks, pig stalls, plucking ducks, feeding geese for liver, calves confinement, live transport etc are all cruel practices and must be banned. See Muelsing: http://www.alv.org.au/issues/sheep.php about time something like that is happening, where is the RSPCA, they supposed to look after farm animals, not just hiding behind endorsing barn laid eggs.
