Hey...the hunt is carefully controlled and it gives the native peoplethe chance to sell their RIGHT to hunt a Polar bear for $30-40,000.

The Tourist hunter has no interest in the meat...which is highly prized by the Inuit. The Inuit in turn no longer are interested in the skins, having found substitues.

So, less bears are killed and more benefit goes to the Inuit than was true 40 years ago when quotas were established for the hunt.

That is why Polar bear populations HAVE GROWN from around 8-10,000 to 22-25,000 now.
The Inuit families have an opportunity to take 1 bear about every five years. it is on a strict rotation basis.

The Sierra Club knows this, but it is politically expedient to use the Polar bears as an icon.

Frankly, what they are doing is shameful!

It is on a par with driving the cost of food up by insisting on biofuels being used instead of petroleum causing more starvation and malnutrition.
It is a callous disregard for human life while actually helping to exterminate rainforest species as they are cleared to grow sugar and palm oil.

Please stop falling for it.

I may add that 4 Polar bears drowned last year...get this....because they slipped into the water unconcious from a tranquilizer dart in an attempt to tag them by wildlife officials.

I can sympathize with the native Americans & there way of selling the rights .. but I also sympathize for a species of beautiful Polar Bears that will be extinct if this keeps being done..ITS not right to kill beyond what can't replenish & right now with all the odds against the Polar Bears I feel that the banning should stop ALL killing of these bears.. & there should be NO EXEMPTIONS including the rights that the Native Americans can sell to the wealthy...NO HUNT for the life of an extinct animal is worth that much money... once they are gone no money can bring it back... its plain sick
