N'd, Thanks Tierney for the post. Kudo's to this girl!!! I am still shaking, this is unbelieveable! Teaching kids to kill ....I reallly don't know what I can say that is civil....EXCEPT oh @#$% no, this can not be aloud to go on....Period! I would have been probably hauled off if this had been my daughters school....I would not even disect a frog when I was young ...I stayed home....I also called my daughters school for showing a bull fight in spanish the time she was young and I didn't let her watch anything violent....I can not even believe the insanity of what we are calling school and teaching any more......Did not mean to run on, but this really p's me off....we have got to get a petition on this one...and protest this excuse-less unexceptable killing...

This story shows how heartless teachers can be. This will impact the students of that class forever and make a precedent for everyone to think about brutally slaughtering chickens. For the students to have to raise them from birth and then be expected to slaughter them is totally inappropriate. I still remember refusing to dissect my frog in science class!! When people make a stand on their beliefs it does get noticed (fortunately I was not suspended). I will send emails supporting the student who made a stand for the chickens supporting her for her bravery.

She is a heroine, and a very brave, independant young adult. She is more adult, than most of those clowns running that hideous school project. I will do what I can Tierney. Be strong everyone, and keep going.

OMG, how this could be allowed is beyond one's imagination. Did this teacher do this as a child and is now a murderer without anyone's knowledge? All kinds of bad thoughts are going through my head right now about this whole event. To think those kids had to take part in this cruel deed is eerie.

God will not forget her bravery in saving that chicken. How can a school agree to such horrific teaching? Will forward and write emails. Thanks Tiereney hun!! And yes, we need to get a petition going about this.

Unspeakable. I certainly intend to write to the school principal. What kind of educational system do they have in Kansas that encourages slaughter? MADNESS.

What a shining example of humanity this young girl is unlike her teacher! Another example of innappropriate school activity much the same as the pet sheep slaughtered in Kent UK by order of the headteacher who had allowed the children in that case primary school children 10 11 year old to pet the sheep name him and feed him etc. This nonsense should be removed from educational establishments before it reinforces the notion that animals are mere property to be disposed of at will and in this case actually slaughtered by the students.resulting in blood stained clothing etc what a disgusting example to set for impressionable young people! Children are not stupid but it would appear some of their teachers are! One wonders if some school staff have come from the same planet as politicians the one where compassion and humanity do not appear in the vocabulary!

Is the school not required to notify the parents if such a practice is to take place? I recall when I was young and we were suppose to kill and disect a frog. I couldn't do it. So the day all the frogs were suppose to be killed, I went into the classroom early, gathered them all in a sack, and ran out the back door with them. I got all sorts of lecturing from the teacher and principal, got a terrible grade, being an A student did hurt, but it was all the worth it knowing at least those frogs lived.
I've never forgotten the dread, the sickening in my stomach, I was confused with all that I'd been taught, don't hurt, don't kill, now this teacher wanted me to do both. I have spoken to other adults along the road of life, and they too were adversly affected by having to do a similar thing in school.
This will weigh heavy on these children minds, many like myself, forever, and we wonder why some go on and become animal abusers. It may not turn all to abuse, but for a few children, the taste of this can lead to future episodes to repeat this action.

Sounds like Nate Hamilton is an animal sadist who's just brought his sick fetish to the classroom and has taken his brutal acts by getting others to carry them out...all in the name of education. He's not a teacher, he's an animal sadist. He probably has a library of crush videos at home, or makes them.

I can't believe this is happening again! I wrote a letter months ago to school officials regarding the same subject. I can't remember where the school was (don't know if it's the same school). Why don't they just show the video narrated by Paul McCartney so that kids will know where their meat comes from? How can anyone force someone (especially a youth) to kill? It's like drafting kids to go to war.

I hope the brave student who rescued her chicken (and wrote the letter that made me cry) becomes a hero and receives the praise she deserves. I hope her example inspires others.

We, here in Canada have just lived through a horrendous guilty plea from the EX Col. Williams and I have often wondered what brought him to his end. Just maybe the cold and remorseless killer would have really enjoyed this class. The teacher, Nate should apologise to the students and fellow teachers and never more do such classes as this.

I love this girl, and her strong spirit to make this stand. I can't even imagine having to face such a thing in high school, and I am horrified that this teacher was given the freedom to teach a meat-eating agenda in a classroom, and subject the kids to such trauma. The cruelty to the chickens goes without saying.....

Good for her. There is no reason why something like should be done in a school.

In a country where you can't even wear a flag shirt anymore or a rosary around your neck in school because it "violates" the civil rights of others, I don't see how this even can be legal. Crosses no, butchering yes...?

The Picket Line is off. My Friend and I decided that it is too much hassle to make a sign. Change of plans for us is a slight setback, but we will be there in spirit.

Posted on Twitter page for more 'exposure' . Bullying has got to and will stop. Petitions to legislate against bullying should be priority! Chickens or innocent victims like Kathleen Edwards that have been made to suffer will find solidarity here in our family at Care2 !

Have to stop this - the idea of making the reality of food REAL is not necessarily bad - could make more compassionate people - but not this way. To not even ensure that the students knew how to properly kill to at least (ahem) minimize suffering is wrong.

The message this activity in schools imparts to students is far more likely to inoculate them to the abundant cruelty of life period Encouraging indifference to sadistic and brutal activities is what permits the likes of Bush and Blair to commit troops to repeating such activities abroad The tacit approval of nations to such actions can only come from citizens who are programmed not to care! Imbuing students with cruel disregard for the feelings of sheep, chicken, frogs or whatever is the beginning of a very slippery slope down the hill of selfishness! My own refusal to indulge in cutting up a bulls eye and the boiling of live earthworms prior to dissection in a biology lesson as a child, caused the science teacher to re-evaluate the purpose and morality of his lessons! Thus as is often the case the educator is educated by the child! This school should be grateful for the spontaneous display of humanity displayed by Whitney, the teacher should be educated by Whitney's action! Whilst the basic idea of educating children about the source of their food is to be commended, hands on butchery is not necessary any more acceptable than say having the class indulge in sex abuse would inform them that sex abuse is wrong! Just imagine the outcry if such an action was contemplated by a teacher! Sadly there are those in the teaching business that are naive at best and stupid at worst! I have no doubt that we will read of Whitney's future career in a very positive light if she continues her humane stance! Perhaps a future President of the US in the making! We can but hope!
