Ringo Starr told CNN: "Didn't the Vatican say we were satanic or possibly satanic -- and they've still forgiven us? I think the Vatican, they've got more to talk about than the Beatles."

London, England (CNN) -- The Vatican may have forgiven the Beatles over the weekend for their "satanic" messages -- but Ringo Starr, the legendary band's drummer, says he couldn't care less.

In a tribute published to mark the 40th anniversary of the breakup of the band, who singer John Lennon once claimed were "more popular than Jesus," the Vatican newspaper "L'Osservatore Romano" said it had forgiven them and called them a "precious jewel."

But Starr told CNN: "Didn't the Vatican say we were satanic or possibly satanic -- and they've still forgiven us? I think the Vatican, they've got more to talk about than the Beatles."

An influential Catholic Church publication has used its front page to praise the Beatles, with two articles and a cartoon reproducing the zebra crossing walk on the iconic Abbey Road cover.

If you're wrongfully accuse someone of something, you should be the one asking their forgiveness. Not vice versa.

John's "bigger than Jesus" comment was so misunderstood...
the vatican and the pope should be dealing with the evil crap they have been participating in for decades and stop pointing the finger at others...hypocrites!
Does this mean John, Paul, George and Ringo will be going to heaven??!!! :)

I have read full story and come to know this article is too short. As the Vatican can say whatever they want to and if that person doesn't like it well who cares. And the Vatican and the pope should be speaking out against sinful people but doesn't. If you don't believe in the Vatican or the catholic church don't expect to here them give a apology for something that I'm sure was true.

I think the Vatican has more to worry about than the Beatles, i.e. the horrendous child abuse cases coming to light and perpetrated by priests and nuns in Europe.

The headline on this article is quite misleading. Find the CNN interview with Ringo and you'll see what I mean.

Those who can't forgive, shouldn't throw stones at glass houses for that stone may twist and hit back at them!

The vatican shoulld clean it's own house. What does a bunch of old men dressing up like royalty have to do with the teaching of Jesus?

This is their PR. After child abuse cases, they are trying to repair their image. We'll hear more of similar reports.
