Cats may be better hunters and better at adapting to their environment but nothing beats a dog for loyalty, compassion and friendship.
I guess cats are kind of okay.....sometimes ; )

Did you know that scientists have intimated that without dogs you don't have humans? That we share an evolutionary arc brought about by a cohabitive interdependence.

Can't accept that--I'm a dog lover!! Cats are too independent for me! However, cats are cleaner than dogs! Thanks, Louise, for sharing!

I don't think wiping out another species makes one better than another... Humans have wiped out plenty and that doesn't make them great!

Cats may be better at surviving but I don't believe they have played as important a part in our history as dogs.

On a pesonal note, I prefer dogs anyway ;-)

I didn't really care for this article as I think it just causes unnecessary friction and heated debate. There was nothing positive for the dog lover and put the cat in a bad light. I guess I'm just tired of everyone trying to out do others at any costs. By the way, I'm a cat person with 4 of my own cats, a feral colony, and 2 neighborhood cats that I care for. I don't have any dogs.

I have a cat and a dog and have some of each over the years. I've known that cats are better at surviving since I was a child. If a cat leaves home and doesn't come back, it will resort to its native instincts to hunt for survival. Cats don't need people; but, there's a lot of people who need cats. Dogs, on the other hand, are truly domesticated. They depend upon people in order to survive.

You can't prove scientifically that cats are better than dogs (my opinion is not scientific) and I'll tell you why - of course making an exception for the proof here that cats are better at one particular thing - surviving - for which there is physical evidence.

Take any two groups and apply an overall standard on which one group is "better" than the other - absent physical evidence - and what you have is basically a graph with two superimposed bell curves - we've all seen them. Assume the superposition puts them close together, say just far enough apart to see they are not identical. That doesn't prove that cats are "better" than dogs, even if totally correct. It only proves that a little over half of cats are "better" than a little over half of dogs. But it also proves that almost half of all dogs are "better" than almost half of all cats! There is no honest way it can be used to prove that any given cat is smarter than any given dog.

My best friends are my cats, of course I'm a crazy cat person though. I can't imagine a world without cats.

So what? Why does it have to be a competition? I don't really give a darn what science says about this. I live with cats and dogs (and two birds) and they each bring their own uniqueness to my home. Why'd o humans have to make every thing a contest?

Silly heading, which was bound to ruffle a few feathers. But thanks to those who went beyond it and actually read the article! It wasn't about which one you prefer.

Why pit one against the other. I love dogs but haven't had a dog since I was a little girl. I became a pet parent to my first kitty in the 1960's and it's been that way ever since. When ever there is an opportunity to be with and around dogs I take it. However, I'm a pet parent to kitties only. I know my limits and caring for two kitties at a time is what works for me. I can't imagine my life without my furry family and no matter the breed each cat is an individual and has their own likes and dislikes. I'm so happy we have both dogs and cats in our world.
