Animal welfare groups are planning to fly dozens of the pint-size pets from California to the Big Apple in coming weeks after West Coast dog shelters recently became overrun with the breed.

I hope homes are found for all these wonderful dogs but isn't it time to pass some laws about breeding of animals. Neuter and Spay your pet does not seem to be getting through to people who just do not care.
Even if we made breeders purchase a license to breed and control how many they can breed, it would be a start. A law for all puppies to be registered before being given away or sold might also help control the pet population. Any animal who is abandoned should be traced back to the owner and the owner should be fined. Animal abusers get away with too much.

Good post Marilyn, I agree. I also think that vet's should somehow be "forced" to offer free spay and/or neuter, which ever is cheaper (so they can't cry about losing money too much). I really don't think they would notice that much of a hit on their pocketbooks...
