The Pope has become embroiled in Germany's Catholic child sex abuse scandal after his former diocese confirmed he approved a decision to give church accommodation to a priest accused of forcing an 11-year-old boy to perform oral sex.

Benedict has used his office from the moment he took the papal throne to settle personal grudges, persecute Catholics who disagree with him or who he regards as too liberal, go after Jesuits and protect child molesters. He was no different in his previous positions in the church--but now he has more power. The Borgia popes were better than this guy.

I really do hope the prophecies are right and this evil man is the last Poop. He is actually good for we atheists because he has done more damage to the Church's credibility than any previous Poop.

Wow! The Pope should know better than to get personally involved in anything as sick as that!!! I agree that this pope has not helped the church at all!!! The previous pope was really sweet!

Unreal, to say the least... I am not an atheist nor a Catholic but this Pope is a little "on the far side"???? Ido so agree with Ralph! Thanks, Lone

Pope, smope...he's a mortal man not God. I believe he's related to George W. Bush. Off to the dungeon with him! Any hungry lions around?

So apparently-in 1980 it was decided that this pervert receive therapy--but he was not relieved of his duties until 2008????????WTF?????????It is still so horrifying to hear about on-going sex abuse accusations being made about priests all over the world. I think of all the children that were not believed and therefore had no voice in the 50sor 60s when it was unheard of. They abused their positions of trust-I am a Catholic and remember thinking that Priests were like God on Earth. I am so proud of the first person that accused a priest and opened the floodgates for others that needed to take this painful path down the road of abuse. Thank you Terry.

I really don't have a whole lot of respect for the Pope anymore. I am not a Catholic, although I've always had respect for the religion and it's cleric, but I wonder if Catholics are getting fed up with their leadership, as I am.

I'm sorry, I must have been living in a cave. The Catholic Church has been protecting child molesters masquerading as priests in Germany also? I'm with Do Coll, this looks systemic to me. Thank God my mom was a recovering Catholic by the time I was born.

This is so typical of the RC church, they love to point their fingers and get involved in politics, where they should be keeping their nose and comments to themselves....

The pope has made one trouble ever since he was elected, I now understand why they had trouble accepting this one.

They have enough to do cleaning up their own back yard, they have all been complicite in the rotten business of child abuse, and we all know it now!

This is why I left the RC church. So much politics and no God any longer. The religion itself is not at fault. Greed, power lust, and evil have entered to destroy it from within.

Which is sad, as the real religion itself is a beautiful thing.

I knew a few catholics as a youngster.....I was about 7-8 years old....The girls were talking about what "the father" had done to their 12 year old brother....The boy had told his parents but his mom and dad didn't believe him....The spanked him for "telling tales".....I had gone with the family to a Sunday service and the priest took the boy into his office...When we got back to their house-the boy told his parents he didn't want to be alone with the priest anymore....This was nearly 55 years ago...THIS IS NOT A NEW THING AND EVEN NON-CATHOLICS ARE AWARE OF IT....WHY does ANYONE want to take their children to anything catholic when every one knows what goes on there?????

Pam--I am 57 years old and was raised Catholic. I did not know about this abuse until the rest of the world did. as I said earlier-I feel so badly for the children that were punished for speaking up--it is awful-what they went through. I could not agree with you more. I guess I am lucky to not have had any brothers--it would appear now that this has been going on globally for--I dont know how long. I dont blame the Church for it happening-but I do blame the Church and the Pope for covering this up for years and years and years. They sacrificed children for decades-they knew but we didnt. There isnt enough money in the world to make the pain go away for all these abused children. Maybe the Church will go broke-it would appear that if everyone that was molested sued the Church--maybe they would go broke......Sue their asses off. They protected the wrong ones--they should have been protecting the innocents not the molesters.

The abuse that children went through at the hands of priests, monks and nuns was and is appalling. Many perverts went into the church as it protected them! I believe that the decision made to stop priests being married encouraged this. It also meant that sexual relief could not be relieved.

How can a man, who has no knowledge of a relationship, give marriage counselling? The answer is that he doesn't, he tells the abused family that the sins belong to the father/husband. But if he confesses his sins he is forgiven!!!

Sorry, to me much of this abuse can be avoided by allowing priests to marry and forcing those that abuse their position with children to be punished by the courts of the land and excommunicated!!

catholic church is a disqusting harlot, the catholics have been behing every bad situation on this earth, they were involved in the world wars, so they could molest the children and women, that is what i think, the pope is not a god, a mere man is all he is. the catholic churchs veiws how to worship God is so full of lies. At one time the catholic church did not allow members to have a Bible. The chants they do resemble other religions. what baffles me is why do they worship Mary??? i could go on and on... I agree with all and everyone here

I loved Pope John and this pope can never follow in his footsteps. His background and actions of Nazism have tainted him forever

Debra-----"The Catholics have been behind every bad situation on this earth"????????????????? Really????? I would strongly suggest that you re-think that comment-it is a rather sweeping comment dont you think?????that is an un-educated remark and ridiculous.......I find that to be personally offensive and blatantly untrue. Your statements are untrue and you need to do a bit more investigation before denouncing an entire huge group of people.
