Great fun video only if you happen to live in a place where Winter is a warm and cozy climate, resting in a hammock between two palm trees watching the ocean waves gently ripple against the sand while trying to stay cool.

Not great fun if living in a cold northern climate. In Ottawa, one of the coldest national capitals on the planet, winter is too long, too cold, one can freeze to death if not dressed properly (someone was found frozen to death across the river in Gatineau, Quebec in a parking lot at seven in the morning.)

Winter can be scenic, people skate, ski and do various things for the cold months but winter can be very annoying at times. Wind chills, -40, scraping ice off the car, snow tires, driving in blizzards (one does have to get to work, even during snow storms, otherwise the economy would grind to a halt if we stayed home and don't go to work during a blizzard). Our winters are too long for days off during snow storms, for the most part people drive to work.

For real entertainment, here is some video of the 1998 Ice Storm. I went 13 days without power in January.

The freezing rain came down for days and it got so heavy that it cracked trees in half, many collapsed to the ground or bent over.

The hydro (electric) pylons were crushed and fell to the ground. Millions were without power. It is annoying in the summer if the air conditioning goes off, but in the winter, one can freeze to death.

The army came by checking homes and brought us a jerry can of several litres of water. We had a wood stove, so we did not have to evacuate, but it did take a month to get the phone reconnected. Otherwise, we had no power, no TV for newscasts, no computer and it got dark at night except for candles for 13 nights.

For a few days if one was outside, the trees split in half every two seconds, it sounded like machine guns in a war zone. To get out of the lane way we had to chain saw the fallen trees into pieces, big oak trees.

For your viewing is an Ice Storm with Attitude in Ontario and Quebec.

This one below is for those who have some 28 minutes to watch a CJOH news documentary on the Ice Storm. Drink some hot chocolate, tea or coffee to keep warm.

For those living in Toronto who think that they experience Winter...the rest of the country thinks this:

Vancouver and Victoria out in Lotusland on the West Coast can be excused. They generally only get rain during the Winter, not much in the way of snow. The rest of Lotusland gets a lot of snow but Vancouver has green grass in February on their lawns and watch the daffodils grow while the rest of us freeze and drive in snowy conditions.

Of course, people in North Canada laugh at the wimps in Southern Canada and tell us that if we want to experience real winter, come and live in the Arctic. In the summer parts of the arctic gets sunshine til midnight and they can grow great veggie gardens. But in the winter, sun at all, it is like dusk for around four months. It is darkish all day and all night. Not for the faint of heart and they get -50 or more.

Snow can be a four letter word at times. Why don't we move to warmer climates? It is called Universal Health Care and for the most part Canada is a pleasant place to live. Just make winter two weeks in December and many will be pleased. We can move Winterlude to December.

Sorry, that should be people in Northern Canada, not North Canada.
