Following the scorching Congressional testimony from whistleblower Harry Markopolos, who spent eight fruitless years trying to bring the Madoff scandal to light, Securities and Exchange officials today declined to answer many basic questions.

A particularly contentious exchange took place between Rep. Gary Ackerman and the SEC's acting general counsel, Andy Vollmer.

In response to Mr. Vollmer's refusal to answer questions, Mr. Ackerman asks three times whether the Bush holdover was hiding behind executive branch immunity.

"Yes, in part," he finally answered.

When is the right time to take a look at what’s wrong?

Harry Markopoulos tried to make entrenched bureaucrats understand that Bernie Madoff was a thief. He did everything for the SEC except he forgot to leave a trail of mochacchinos and muffin tops to Bernie Madoff’s safety deposit box. When do we start to look hard at this shit?

The squad from the SEC made the hearing look like an open audition for a remake of Rainman. “Yes….we’re very dedicated and concerned………dedicated and concerned….Quantas” When does someone get eaten by wolves?

Congress is indignant at the CEOs but they knew how much they were making before the shit hit the TARP. And they still have the balls to be picking the lint out of the stimulus packages’ navel.
When do we decide to begin to start to attempt to take a cold hard look at some very serious things that are happening?

I know there’s a lot going on but whatever happened to multi-tasking? Couldn’t we behead some of these treasonous bastards and ponder Obama’s shirtsleeve dilemma at the same time?

A wise man once said we don’t need any new laws, just enforce the ones we’ve got. Congress, with their hearings, puts on a good show and sometimes makes us feel better. To that I say “Stop trying to make us feel better and do what the fucking constitution of the United States tells you to do… your fucking job.”

Hey, the boat in the picture had a lot of problems way before it ever hooked up with the iceberg. Still in all, it would have been nice to have seen it coming.

Once again there aren’t enough lifeboats for everybody. And I hope to God the captain at least has the dignity to put on his suitcoat before the ship sinks.

P.S. Here is something profoundly interesting in my blog: George W. Bush is a hate-crime criminal (indicated at “George W. Bush had better stop committing hate crimes”).
