Diamond wasn't bothering anyone. She wasn't wandering or acting aggressive as police claim. A neighbor, who witnessed the shooting, only called the police because she thought the dog might need help. She never dreamed the police were coming to murder a family dog

I Heart Pits rescue in Detroit received a frantic call from a woman who saw the shooting take place. The witness says Diamond was laying down when CLPS arrived. She never got up and she didn't charge the officers as they claim.

One of the officers fired a shot at Diamond, who then let out a loud cry and continued to whimper as she laid her head on the ground, submitting to the gunfire and pain. While lying on the ground whimpering, CLPD proceeded to shoot Mama Diamond four more times ultimately ending poor Diamonds life in her very own yard.
Mama Diamond's babies are safe. They were in the home when their mother was killed, and have been crying for her ever since she left them and got out of her yard and was foolishly killed by CLPD.

In all, five people witnessed the shooting. Police need to remember that just because a witness isn't visible doesn't mean they're not watching from behind a curtain inside their home.

Center Line Police Department officers allegedly made a return visit to the home after murdering the family dog. A friend to Liz was at the home, and officers repeatedly asked the friend whether she knew this dog. She kept insisting yes she did.

She was also on the phone with with Diamond's owner at the time and asked the officers whether they would like to speak to Diamond's owner. According to the friend, the officer refused the phone when Liz asked to speak to him, telling the friend to be quiet so the owner on the other end of the phone could hear what they were about to say.

Officer's allegedly told Liz if she pursues charges she will be arrested on five felonies, which would be determined by the judge, and she will spend a guaranteed 30 days in jail. But if you say you don't know this dog and that she was a stray you will have no problems.

The family is hoping those who witnessed Diamond being shot will come forward and file a report against the Center Line Police Department. That's a tough call to make, deciding to become involved against the local police department...

This officer needs to be terminated from his job immediately. Any officer that would commit such a heinous and unjust act of violence against a nonaggressive mother dog is not fit to wear a police officer badge. I hope the story makes it to the top, it seems we need to get better training and better informed officers in the field. This is only going to happen if enough people shed a light on such travesties.

This is crazy and stupid. Don't officers have better things to do then shoot dogs in their owners front yards? Why does it have to be "shoot first and ask questions later?" Or in this case, "shoot first and then cover-up by threatening people after the fact."

Diamond's family has already decided they will fight for justice in her murder. To follow Diamond's story, a Facebook page has been set up in her memory. A candlelight vigil is also being planned, and details will be announced on their page.

UPDATED JUNE 10: A woman who read Diamond's story contacted the Center Line Police Department this morning and was not allowed to speak with anyone in charge. She was told everything online is a lie, and that police have plenty of witnesses who saw the dog attack. The concerned dog advocate was also told if she called back she would be paid a "visit" by police in her area.

This article does not dispute the fact that Diamond may have attacked. It deals with why deadly force was used as a first defense instead of a Taser, pepper spray or catch pole. It doesn't dispute the dog may have been aggressive, as a mother dog may have been. People are more concerned on why the police saw fit to kill Diamond, then take her body, instead of coming prepared on a dog-at-large call

As of yet no one has filed an official report against the department. Since an out of state caller has already been told she'll be turned in to her local police, it may prevent any witnesses from coming forward.

This is just unacceptable!!!! I DONT care what the dog did!!! The bottom line is that police are SUPPOSED to be trained to be in control at all times and to just shot a dog dead shows very little control why didn't the officer use less lethal ways to subdue the dog like pepper spay or a tazer? Police CANT just be opening fire whenever they feel a threat its unsafe and ridiculous what dog wouldn't try to protect babies? in this situation the police are DEAD wrong

Pets are family.

Cops and Robbers are protective of their own.

If only several witnesses would stand up together!
If only there were pictures take.

are there children in Center Line? are they allowed to walk the streets? or do they teleport to and from school? pitbull's should be banned and they certainly shouldn't be allowed to share the streets with children

what we need is a petition to put heat on that police department, tell them that the public is against this kind of unnecessary force against animals and get a reputed animal welfare group in on the petition to spread publicity.

I am confused why one a neighbor call the police because she thought the dog needed help, sounds fishy. If the dog needed help they could have helped her themselves. I was raised to always respect the police, but lately they are sure not acting as though they deserve respect.

First, one of the weakest aspects of policing today is the test for psychological suitability. There is not much of an argument to be had here, for the inadequacy of the tests have been acknowledged. Most certainly, there is nothing in them likely to keep out bullies, sadists, the inadequate personality seeking to compensate through exercise of power, those who already drink to excess, those who use drugs, etc.,etc. Let us not be silly nor mince words -- bullies, sadists and the inadequate are attracted to policing just as paedophiles are attracted to teaching. Secondly, what makes the numbers of these types seem perhaps greater than they are is laziness. Given guns and tasers, but especially the former, the temptation to use them when less drastic measures would suffice is irresistible for many. Saves time and trouble and maybe getting scratched. And this is where the arguments put forward in their defence go out the window, for frankly, if you transplanted the average North American cop to the UK, where guns are carried only in special circumstances, I don't think they'd know what the hell to do if they met a big barking dog or a mentally disturbed person wielding a knife. He or she couldn't just kill as per routine in the States, obviously. I do believe I see a sit-com plot I could sell here! I jest, of course. And lastly, the protection of the blue line, aka lying through their teeth. That was actually where the officers who killed the Polish immigrant at Vancouver Airport came unstuck for once. Most are now on trial for perjury, and perjury is not a minor offence. But usually, of course, a solid line of lying cops will usually win the day. That is perhaps the point that brings to the fore one element not yet mentioned: Morality. Not so much because they lie, but because of what they are prepared to cover up by lying. And perhaps in that observation is one seed of the garden in which police officers should really be trained. At present, they mainly learn how to serve and protect themselves; the latter they don't really need, for far more people are killed in various construction and manufacturing industries than are police officers.

These police can’t charge the owner with any felonies. She didn’t do anything wrong. They’re just lying and using intimidation tactics to discourage her from pursuing charges against them for their cold-blooded murder of this dog. It just shows you how low minded these police who brutally killed this dog are! They are the ones who committed the felonies, not the owner of this dog! They committed felony animal cruelty as they shot and killed this dog who was just lying down and doing nothing but waiting for her owners, and now they are committing another felony by obstructing justice by using threats and intimidation to discourage witnesses from coming forward who saw what really happened and want to give their account. They know they’re guilty of killing this dog for no reason whatsoever and are trying to keep the truth about their ugly vicious crime concealed. And this is why, it is so important for witnesses who saw what really happened to come forward and go to higher authorities and tell the truth about what these policemen did to this sweet dog and not let these corrupt policemen get away their horrible crime!

Officer's allegedly told Liz if she pursues charges she will be arrested on five felonies, which would be determined by the judge, and she will spend a guaranteed 30 days in jail. "But if you say you don't know this dog and that she was a stray you will have no problems." By using lies and intimidation, they just wanted to scare her from pursuing charges against them because all they care about is their rotten selves and saving their hides from being terminated and being charged with felony animal cruelty! The fact that they added the part about the stray shows how guilty they are and that they will stoop to any level to cover for their malicious act! But, if these immoral police who have shown no scruples continue with their dishonorable work, the entire community of Center Line is at risk because they will continue acting as though they have a right to do anything they want because they are “policemen” when in actuality they are acting more like thugs who are abusing their power!

These “policemen" need to go before they take more animals' lives, cruelly and unjustly, as they did with Diamond and continue to discourage people in the community from coming forward by using scare tactics to suppress the truth! Center Line doesn’t need a police force that acts more like gangsters rather than policemen who are acting in the best interests of the community), that is why these corrupt policemen must go and witnesses must come forward and realize that these police are hoping that people will be intimidated by their idle threats! It is these policemen who will ultimately pay the price with their lies and corruption when witnesses come forward to tell the truth. Honesty always has a way of defeating dishonesty, evil, and corruption!
