Before World War II, it was more unusual for a staffer to work their way up because there were only a few personal aides on Capitol Hill. In 1946, Congress passed the Legislative Reorganization Act, which streamlined Congressional committees and ---->

This is a really informative article on who is running and who will be running and why they will probably win. Also since the increase in staff for House and Senate we now have nearly 30,000 employees to serve less then 500 elected members of Congress. All have great health care and the best retirement packages and you and I are lucky enough to get to pay for this. And let's not forget those chauffeured limousines - ahh...the life of a public servant.

It makes sense that former Congressional staffers would have somewhat of an edge at times due to their experience in that area. And I agree with you thoroughly, Kit. There are far too many such staffers out there costing taxpayers far too much money. Why is it that members of Congress rarely seem to share the habits of the rest of us?

Indeed Lindsey when these people are so far removed from real life how can they begin to understand our life and our needs?

I wonder if I could get one of those jobs when I reach retirement age but still need to work because of all of Washington's mismanagement. I could sure use those benefits, because I'm not getting them from my 20 years of human service.

"Just like being a voter and they get to change your vote - Wow - now that's democracy! Now really why do we need health care? According to all the newest reports we hear - over and over we are sick because we eat too much eat the wrong foods, don't exercise enough and have too much "packaged" and fast foods , plus we have too much stress. Gee, I don't why? So you see it's all our fault!
