No Jobs Recovery

The US economy added 162,000 jobs in March. Great news until you look more closely. In March, the federal government began hiring census takers big time. These are six-month temp jobs, and they tell us nothing about underlying trends in the labor market.

All I can say is that my daughter had her hours cut in half last year....suppose to be from Nov. to March but it wasn't until like June she got her full time back BUT she didn't totally lose her job or benefits! Now she has fulltime plus alittle overtime...much better than it was. Things are looking up and yes, Census jobs are even better than none! TY, Kit

Wrote you a nice, long, thoughtful analytical answer that went *poof*. Not only that, but it 'cost' me 37 butterfly credits. I'm no match for the Care2 gremlins (shouldn't be typing in the A.M. anyway); so you'll just have to settle for a "Good Morning Kit!" :) as I try and recoup 20 of those flutterby thingies...

Little dirt, I had over 2000 of them go poof. Very distressing.

The plutocrats that decide U.S. economic policy decided long ago that manufacturing will be outsourced to other nations where labor is cheap and safety and environmental standards don't exist.

Without Jobs, there is NO Recovery...Wall Street gambling is NOT Recovery!
It will take gobs of money & a co-ordinated Plan of Government Action to regain Enough Jobs, rehabilitate InfraStructures, and Re-BUILD America for the Future. A 21st Century WPA that Educates & Involves Americans is what is Sorely Needed.. I don't see how Depending on the Kindness of Billionaire Capitolists is helping Anyone so far..

The Census jobs only last a short time, they can play with the figures all they want, we are far from out of the water.....if ever.

For an economist some times he is a complete moron. First it took at least 8 years of the Bushites to digg the well deeper than it was from President Regan Jelly Bean Brain and those who followed. Second in order to climb out of a well you have to stop falling first, that at least has been done we are nolonger losing 700,000 + jobs ever month, second you have to begin the climb up, and for president Obama that means climbing up the walls of the well with the Repugnicans and their Corporate allies pouring oil down the sides of the well and refusing to buy the ropes needed to help get us out of the well until they have been paid for when they had no problem paying their corporate friends over market value for the back hoes that they deepened the well with on credit! Go ask the millions of Americans how much they appreciate the Senate Repugnican obstructionists Bunning and Coburn for the lose of their Flood Insurance and the extra money that will cost them, which I am sure will help those communities get out of their economic wells oh so much faster!

I agree with Lloyd. . Plus At this point the Americans are so brainwashed by the people that destroyed the economy and set this nation in the wrong direction. . . they wont accept change or betterment . They would rather condemn someone trying to do something better. Pick every little piece of optimism apart . If change is so horrible , then I guess you would rather elect a republican next time around . and see everyone on welfare instead of only the 1/5 of the country that Bush put there.

Jobs need to be brought back to our shores for our people. We need to buy American/Canadian instead of imports when possible. Support your local tradesmen as they hire locally. Put a freeze on immigration until things even out a bit.

the economy and job situation will probably only get worse. this is causing many people to turn to law of attraction and other spiritual solutions to their money problems. so there is a good side to this.

Less weaponry and more education and jobs for the entire world.

It is going to take a very long time for this recovery. Baby steps in the right direction are better than nothing as long as we all understand the facts without being deluded by current numbers. Adding jobs, even just a few thousand, is certainly better than none and is absolutely positive, considering the horrific 8 years that created this mess. Let's hope the trend will continue.

Any job is better than no job. They say that we will never be back to where we were but then that calls for a better work force with higher education.

Things won't get much better until Obama is out. If he wanted to create jobs he would have already done it. It is obvious that jobs are not his main priority.

Garrison Keillor:
Where's our old-fashioned government jobs program?
It's intolerable that 15 million people are unemployed and many more underemployed. Work is redemptive

Noted and Thank you Kit. Doesn't anyone realize that Obama has given the country jobs if they want it? Of course, They can always join the Army or Marines and get themselves killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hadn't anyone thought of those jobs??? Of course if 1 young lad looses his life there's another job for someone else, or hadn't you thought that that is the way Obama is thinking???? Or at least I think he's thinking that way, and a lot of thinking is going on that way or hadn't you thought of that???????
