Though he never directly mentioned the movement itself, Mr. Obama spent a great deal of time on Tuesday night underscoring many of Occupy's most central themes: income inequality, tax fairness, and the need to rein in the illegal and immoral behavior-->

We definitely need real investigation of the banks and mortgage fraud. Hopefully the commission that Obama declared in his speech, but as the article says, it seems to be a bit of the" too little too late." At least California and Nevada are pursuing their own independent investigations.

I was most disturbed by what appeared to be an all out endorsement of fracking - lauding the technology available to drill so far below the earth's surface and that our shale oil reserves would produce enough natural gas for the next 100 years! No mention of the toxicity of the process, the fact that the facilities to contain or "filter" the waste are non-existent, that the process dredges toxins of methane and radioactive minerals, as well as noted for seismic activity and explosions - I could go on -- sorry - Yes the banks are a tremendous problem and need investigation, I liked his desire to cap campaign contributions - but that will never pass until state by state and city by city an amendment will be added to the Constitution and United Citizen's discredited - now it is a class war!

When the same old players get recycled, it is bound to be the same old result. Some of the speech was good, and it seems he has Learned a bit from the OWS, but it really makes me nervous that he is Still talking about "reforms" in Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid!:( CREATE JOBS! And End the caps on SS income..That's the ONLY way to make Social Security safe - now & forever! Really Reform Medicare by making it Universal-Single-Payer Medicare for ALL! Screw Insurance companies & make ALL Doctors & Healthcare professionals accept it to keep their licenses!!!! Medicaid can be absorbed into Medicare that way!

He , by his voice in the SOTU, told us all that he agrees with all that OWS stands for except of course the fracking. That is all I disagreed with him on.

All I can say is that Obama is a puppet -- he says what he has to say - and that s pretty much it.

That's the way the system is set-up, they choose the puppets they want and we get to make the choice between door #1 and door #2; of course there really isn't much difference behind the doors.

Thanks for the article, Kit. The Pres. I voted for has continually disappointed me, although I liked his SOTU. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a great record when it comes to keeping his word. The alternative is too scary to even consider, however.

@ Kit...Thanks. Very good article.
Once again, I am saddened by the information. I had so hoped the Banks would be prosecuted. The plea bargain is probably the best deal they thought they could get. Sad. Look at the people who have gone after the 'big guys' for breaking the law. Elliot Spitzer the one Sheriff of Wall Street and then Gov. of NY for a short time till....They found his dirty little secret and got rid of him. Once Attorney General of NY State, then Gov. then deposed. Then there is Mike Green. He was the District Attorney Monroe County, NY. Also, fearless, went after corrupt Police Chief and other cops in the county, got them convicted, serving jail time, then he gets the nod to not run again because he's up for a judgeship. What happens ??? Well, the cops & Chief were aligned with the Republicans. Mike is a Democrat. He doesn't run. Another Democrat gets elected in his stead. He's in Washington, when all of a sudden his name gets redacted. No judgeship for you....He could have spent his life as DA. Very popular. Very ethical. Uncompromising...NOW...out in left field.
This may be why Obama's people are considering the watered down plea.
They may feel at least they'll get something from the banks. Just sayin'
I think if they take what was written in this article, they have settled too low.
I think they should negotiate until they get reelected, then prosecute the banks. But, that's me...I'm not there and I'm not them.
I say FRAK the BANKS !!!!!!

The worst offenders are Dummycrats, including Komrad Klinton's budget of lies and Obama's spending sprees. The Repulsivans are only slightly less disgusting; Bush JR was inept at everything. Ever since 1993 we have not had a real President nor a representative Congress. It's time to vote out the party sycophants and install representatives. Vote 3rd party!

Thanks for the article, Yes, it's those bloody banks, and yes, Obama is a puppet on a string. Who dares to cut off the strings ? And yet Obama is a better choice than any Repug.
