Right on Cate...thanks for the good news. GWB had rather shoot them with wads of depleted uranium or put them under oil spills.

It takes phenomenal courage for one to take a stand such as President Calderon has!!! In the face of so much opposition to preserving San Ignacio, and the future of grey whales!!! So . . . as to GWB . . . I am sure that he's fuming!!! Blowing steam out of every orifice!!! And madder than hell too; along with Japan, this is a MAJOR BLOW TO THEM!!! Again, the courage it takes for this type of action is they type of courage that inspires others! He did now bow to pressures and for that he deserves a medal of some type!!! Though I have no idea what that would be.

Perhaps we should consider a petition of thanks? I know there's a letter circulating . . . whichever. Bottom line? WELL DONE PRESIDENTE CALDERON!!!

I just love seeing "REAL LEADERS" step forward with the courage needed to "LEAD". Something lost in America the past few years. Is there no one in our leadership that has the "u-no's" to step up and be a "REAL LEADER"??? GOT "U-NO'S"??

Cate, this is exciting news. I immediately signed the letter and sent it forward. I agree completely with member posts above who have taken note that El Presidente Calderon has taken an unpopular stance among his peers for this action, but this does demonstrate his courage and leadership. He is certainly standing head and shoulders above certain other national leaders, and we all know who I mean!

Great news! Great Work! Great Outcome!

Signed the letter and ever so grateful that at least one of the leaders in the Americas has taken a stand. Maybe the rest will follow Mexico's shining example.

I am so happy these geantle giants are being looked after!
When I was very young (many years ago), I went there with a friend. Being young & ignorant of the dangers, we took a small boot out to watch the sunset. While out there, a baby was born! Mom pushed baby up close to us & seemed to be saying, "Look at my beautiful child!" -- something I will never forget...we could have reached out & touched the mom! She was so gentle, we forgot the sunset & just watched her & her beautiful baby for a long time.
She could have just as easily have overturned our small boat but it was as if she knew we were not going to harm.
Just thought I would share this wonderful experience. Kudos to Pres.Calderon...shame on GWB
