You going to try and fix one possible disaster with a definite one?

The proposal to encourage faithless electors in the Electoral College to prevent the election of Trump is against every principle of democracy and fair play. Because Clinton has lost the election, her supporters now want to change the rules after the contest is over.
On Wednesday morning, Clinton phoned to Trump and conceded the election. So in her opinion, Trump will be the next president.

I believe in the democratic process. According to the existing electoral system, Trump won the election. If they believe in democracy, Clinton supporters should accept the result and start preparing for the next elections in 2 years and work to win back control in Congress from the Republicans.

To Nyack. I hoped that Clinton would win. Overall I thought she was less flawed than Trump. But she lost the election.

The Electoral College is clearly flawed. One of the ways to fight back is to insist on change, starting now.
(I'd feel the same way if an unfit Democrat were elected president.)

The U.S. Electoral College is the flawed mechanism within this Election process, which resulted in Trump triumphing as a result of the votes gained in particular states (Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania) whilst Clinton did indeed gain the most (popular) votes.

Be that as it may, NEITHER candidate was as healthy for America and the rest of the world, as Bernie Saners or Dr. Jill Stein would have, and could have, been.

It's not changing the rules (as some claim) for the Electoral College to act as one of the checks and balances in our system of democracy. They are the last line of defense against allowing a tyrant or other person incapable of putting the interests of the people first from assuming the presidency. For all his life Drumpf put himself first. Now he has to be a 24/7 servant of the people.

If the Electoral College was supposed to simply abide by the votes counted there would be no need for them since we already have those state by state votes counted.

Ironically only 4 years ago it was Drumpf who was complaining that the Electoral College was a "disaster" when he thought Romney won the popular vote (he didn't) but Obama was still declared the winner. Funny how this time around Drumpf is strangely silent about that. But then he never did have a deep ideology in anything except putting himself first.

Once counties do counts on number of votes vs number of eligible voters, Trump won that too. Illegal aliens votes thrown out

Those who signed this to reverse the fair election are anarchists and sore losers ... I am glad that Trump won ... Liberalism "kills" freedom!

What freedoms has liberalism killed? I've been hearing for 8 years that Obama was going to take away everyone's gun, create death panels, put people into camps, and so on. None of that happened or was even proposed by his administration. It's the conservatives who keep chipping away at our freedoms either in the name of national security or for some moral code they preach at the rest of us but which they themselves consistently fail to abide by in their own lives.

Besides which, according to our Constitution the Electoral College has the final say in who becomes president as one of our checks and balances in our democracy to prevent someone who is a threat or not equipped to be president from assuming the presidency. That's why they exist. So it is fair to ask them to take away the presidency from a racist, fascist authoritarian who poses a grave risk to our climate and people due to his ignorance of government, science, and issues and due to his putting white nationalists and anti science zealots in his White House. If it's not fair to ask the Electoral College to take all this and more into account then there's no point in waiting for them to vote. Abolish them.

If you don't like the Electoral College as set up by our founding fathers (and not many of us do) then ask for it to be eliminated. In that case we could go by popular vote, which by last count had Hillary ahead.

Deb W. I'm not sure what you're drinking, but whatever it is, it's completely brainwashed you. . . I pity you.

I've worked in Corporate Capitalist environments for 25 years. THAT mindset and way of doing things is divisive, destructive and unhealthy. Liberalism is the healthy antidote.

You've been watching and/or reading too much mainstream (right-wing) dross.

How can the United States be a Democracy if the Candidate with the MOST Votes, Loses ?

If the Candidate with the Most votes is declared the Loser, than the USA is Not a Democracy. NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT , THAT IS THE SIMPLE , LOGICAL AND UNDENIABLE TRUTH.

The Electoral College is a direct contradiction to Democracy and MUST be removed.

And in a real touch of irony, the article points out that Trump himself called the Electoral College “a disaster for a democracy.”
