Tommy Monahan will always be remembered for his great sacrifice. The 9-year-old died while trying to rescue his dog, Sophie, and his pet lizard from a fire at his Staten Island home last Dec. 16

On Thursday, Animal Care & Control of New York City announced it will build a surgical suite at a Staten Island animal shelter in memory of Tommy, who died Dec. 16, 2007.

When the Thomas P. Monahan V Surgical Suite opens in June, a bronze plaque bearing Tommy's image will be unveiled.

The new suite means that dogs and cats will no longer have to spayed or neutered at offsite facilities

That little boy had a very loving heart. It's wonderful that he is being honored and how appropriate that a surgical suite for animals is being opened in his memory.

Wonderful post Tina, despite causing some tears.
