The wind is the central part of human life. It is usually a sustainable source of energy in fact it is probably the most inexpensive method to obtain energy.

With the right location, and wind speeds that support a good amount of energy production, these can be an important addition. However, one of the reasons that the world has focused on fossil fuels for electric production for so long is because we simply don't want to discipline ourselves to use less. That's what needs to happen for renewables to work.

If a person can afford the upfront costs then a home turbine will pay for itself...eventually. One will still need back-up source of energy during those times when there is no wind. However, the statistics thus far from wind energy nationwide are more problematic. Despite increased public support and subsidization, wind power facilities only managed to produce 4.13% of the total electricity generated in the US last year. While that is vastly better than solar, which only produced 0.23% (less than 1/4 of 1%) of total electricity produced, it is still barely a drop in a bucket to actually replace fossil fuels. And, now we are confronted with recent statistics that reveal that the top ten wind energy producing states have seen the highest rise in the price of their electricity -AND- increased reliance upon fossil fuels resulting in higher emissions levels. Any form of energy that does not result in decreased consumption of fossil fuels is not part of the Climate Change solution. It's just another part of the problem.
