Boycott Monsanto products. Get seeds from somewhere else and then save seeds from the crops for next year's crop, as they did it in the good old days. Tell Monsanto that as long as they poison their seeds and us, we don't need their products. It may take some doing, but if we have to get seeds outside the US, so be it. Why are they being allowed to poison our food?

What I find to be particularly HEINOUS is that Monsanto is concentrating on forcing their evil crops on third world countries, who are desperate. And -- even as hungry and often uneducated as they are -- EVEN THEY KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG!

...we need no more evidence or proof the govt of the USA is in effect owned by the wealthy corporate elite, it is everywhere we look, and collectively we have on care2 looked everywhere for a long time, some like me for over a year, some like you for years! Thanks Carole and Ben for the links to some very eye-opening videos. Because of the deadly products Monsanto has produced and promoted over the years, the health and well-being of many have fallen victim to their greed. It is evident they are simply profit-oriented and couldn't care less about how they obtain their money. I agree with you Carole, the word is "despicable". With all the strange ingredients in our foods today and the way its grown, it pays to buy from our local farmers and read labels carefully. I am glad that people here and in other countries are recognizing Monsanto for what it is.... simply evil.

Good for the French, this is not the first time. Now that the EU has decided, in its cowardly way, to leave things to individual countries, this will happen more and more often. They seem to be unable to follow the will of the people, which is overwhelmingly against GMO's.

If any "scientist" is being funded by any corporation or whatever, they will have the information on it (and I know that the resulting "scientific opinion" generated is subject to scrutiny). They have all the dirt on the CFF and anti-humane/anti-animal rights groups who are trying to attack animal rights and humane advocates by labeling them "terrorists" so they can ensure that the horrid meat/dairy/egg "industries" keep all their evils in shrouded in darkness to keep the public blindly consuming. WASHINGTON – An Iowa egg producer is recalling 228 million eggs after being linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said eggs from Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa, were linked to several illnesses in Colorado, California and Minnesota. The CDC said about 200 cases of the strain of salmonella linked to the eggs were reported weekly during June and July, four times the normal number of such occurrences.

State health officials say tainted eggs have sickened at least 266 Californians and seven in Minnesota.

They may regret it the day we have federal elections where the race includes the "Monsanto Party". This is a very dangerous issue, in addition to growing concern that introducing foreign genes into food plants may have an unexpected and negative impact on human health - like toxicity, tendencies to provoke allergic reaction (allergenicity); specific components thought to have nutritional or toxic properties; the stability of the inserted gene; nutritional effects associated with genetic modification; and any unintended effects which could result from the gene insertion not forgetting some types of cancers- And on nature.
There are economic concerns that it affects the economy of many countries especially the poor ones, and give large corporations like Monsanto strong influence over the economy of those countries.

Bringing a GM food to market is a lengthy and costly process, and of course agri-biotech companies wish to ensure a profitable return on their investment. Many new plant genetic engineering technologies and GM plants have been patented, and patent infringement is a big concern of agribusiness. Yet consumer advocates are worried that patenting these new plant varieties will raise the price of seeds so high that small farmers and third world countries will not be able to afford seeds for GM crops, thus widening the gap between the wealthy and the poor....

Patent enforcement may also be difficult, as the contention of the farmers that they involuntarily grew Monsanto-engineered strains when their crops were cross-pollinated shows. One way to combat possible patent infringement is to introduce a "suicide gene" into GM plants. These plants would be viable for only one growing season and would produce sterile seeds that do not germinate. Farmers would need to buy a fresh supply of seeds each year. However, this would be financially disastrous for farmers in third world countries who cannot afford to buy seed each year and traditionally set aside a portion of their harvest to plant in the next growing season.... I believe that scientists originally looked at GM foods from a humanitarian standpoint to try to produce crops that were more disease resistant, were larger and so forth. Unfortunately the Monsanto's of the world saw the potention for domination of the world food supply and massive control and profits and took over.

I am appalled by the fact that Monsanto produces these poison seeds and force farmers to purchase more each year but I am even more disturbed that Monsanto is buying companies that used to be organic such as Hain and Celestial.

But the most despicable act of all is that the FDA and the USDA which were created to promote food safety will not even require foods to be labeled that they are GMO or from cloned animals or that they allow "Proprietary Formulas" where ingredients need not be listed so that while there still could be a choice for consumers, even that has been taken away from us.

Do *any* of us want to eat "frankenfoods?" Seriously, if you had the choice, would you? These farmers don't want to, and nor do people in the EU and other places.

What irritates me is when people seize power over others and use it to dominate and force others to "do it their way" by forcing them to buy certain items, and make themselves the only seller. I do not want to live in a plutocracy to be treated like a serf who gets little for her labours and must give it all to eat what some corporation has polluted for their own profit and power. No one should live that way, and we also should not be pulling in animals into that equation, either, forcing them into hideous conditions and pumped full of hormones and chemicals just so that someone can profit on their misery (I see evilness on the same level as forcing people to consume frankenfoods).

But, this is, in fact, what we're facing. Does the term Evil Empire mean anything here??

Just yesterday, on another thread, I asked if anyone was planning to sabotage monsanto. I can't tell you how happy I am to find out it's happening.

if I lived anywhere near a planned demonstration like this, this is a cause worthy of attending (despite my agoraphobia) and being arrested for.

We need this to happen more and more here in America. I'm guessing that Obama just doesn't believe that GMO is so bad. We have to get his attention to INSURE that he beomes aware (we are all entitled to believe or not believe, based on the information that we have come across).

I am morally and ethically against violence or the illegal destruction of property. But I am even more morally and ethically against GMO. Since peaceful protests have not even slowed monsanto, something else needs to be done to get the attention of the world.

I am a staunch Obama supporter, even tho I believe he's been far too wimpy in many of his decisions. But if he is going to destroy the world with GMO, then I'd rather have a repugliCON in office. They aren't quiite as insidious as GMO crops.

So PLEASE, we need organizers to plan crop destructions all over this nation. I'm not that person, but I know there are some here who ARE good at that sort of thing.

Oh, we also need people who are willing to disable all trucks leaving GMO farms with their seeds.

Hey, we can call the movement GitMO.....well ok, that's a booo, but it was fun to think of.

I like Gregory's idea....start up a CARE3 as an activist site that will really be able to make changes due to the number of supporters of a specific cause...and maybe hiring a lobbyist in each country to go and fight for what's right!
We need a representative that is not politically affiliated and is totally motivated by the demands of the people who want what is good and right for the planet and the people.
I'm all for it and will back it 100%....even if I have to pay nominal dues to belong to it....but we would get more people if it could be free like care 2.

What I have found with my 2 senators is they've been duped by the GMO hype "it will feed the world" (I know this because they told me in an email) so therefore they don't see the need for it to be labelled. I am working on educating them. Perhaps some of you may want to do something similar. Monsanto = Death

The news story stated:

After the Haiti earthquake this year, Monsanto offered 475 tons of hybrid corn and terminator vegetable seeds in partnership with USAID. In June, 10,000 Haitian farmers marched in protest of the “poison gift” which produces no viable seeds for future plantings and requires heavy chemical inputs. Haitian farm leader Chavannes Jean-Baptiste observed that the biotech plan makes farmers dependent on multinational corporations.

Now if 10,000 poor farmers from an earthquake ravaged Country, a Country that is the poorest in this Hemisphere can stand up to Monsanto, then where are we in the USA.

Meanwhile, President Obama has stacked his Administration with biotech insiders going so far as to appoint Islam Siddiqui as Agriculture Trade Negotiator. Siddiqui is a former pesticide lobbyist and vice president of CropLife America, a biotech and pesticide trade group that lobbies to weaken environmental laws.

The US is pushing hard at the world to accept GM foods. Recently, the American Farm Bureau Federation called for stronger sanctions against the European Union for its GM crop ban.

Our so called Leaders are STILL kissing the Big Corporations butts as usual.

So people, better learn from those 10,000 farmers and take a stand. Get vocal, because once this cross-pollination takes affect, the lever to the guillotine is pulled, it's all over.

I'm glad Carole the video I sent and the story that you you got in another way hit at same time. Inspiration, we need to keep this Monsanto Monster in our crosshairs.

Carole - I watched the you-tube video that you posted and it just made me sick how Monsanto has forced small farmers out of business because they could pay their legal fight against this evil company. I was just as sick to see how these animals are treated - jammed in and standing in their excrements - chickens so bloated by chemicals that they can not stand for any length of time and many die. People are finally realizing that Monsanto is killing us with their abuses. Did you see that video of cops with guns drawn - going into a store that sells organic food - looking for milk that supposedly they were not allowed to sell. Now the government is trying to pass a law - WHICH IS IN THE SENATE AT THIS TIME - which would not allow anyone to grow vegetables in their back yard - trade seeds - give food from their garden to friends or neighbours and you all will be prosecuted. CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM THAT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. The rights of all Americans are being eroded by big business that has lobbyists that pay off all the government people. IT IS TIME TO FIGHT AND DEFEND THE FARMERS THAT HAVE LOSE THEIR LIVES BECAUSE OF MONSANTO.

The GMO products are already on shelves and the product companies don't even have to note it, or put info about GMO on the product lables. this article brought to mind again, that i wanted to do some research and find the listed companies that are passing the GMO product lines to the stores and provide that list on care2.
i won't buy what i know is GMO!

When did genetically modified foods originate?

Between 1997 and 1999, gene-modified (GM) ingredients suddenly appeared in 2/3rds of all US processed foods. This food alteration was fueled by a single Supreme Court ruling. It allowed, for the first time, the patenting of life forms for commercialization. Just a point of interest here - My friends Great Grandfather was a pioneer in the discovery of DNA - William Astbury - othere went on to refine his discoveries - My point is William Astbury would be greatly outraged at the way DNA is manipu;ated - He merely wished to understand the pattern that ran through all living things NOT to manipulate them - He was full of fun and an idealist as his family has confirmed. Invention/Dicovery is a two edged sword - Leonardo Da Vinci treid to hide some of his inventions so they could not be used against people.

I just watched this video today
and I thought I knew a lot about GMOs but this shows the politics and sneaky plots they are quietly deploying in the world. If not stopped this company will control all the food around the world. They have a lot of control in the governments of the world. Tell your friends and keep the network growing.

Open pollinated non-hybrid heirloom seeds lovingly raised as nature intended.... except for nutrition, there is also the health factor in REAL food, medicine if you like! This is how it should be and I have to say it's great to see the courage and concern of so many people, wanting to tackle this monstrous issue, growing more and more each time, truly awesome. I had read an article this morning about Monsanto withdrawing an application to plant GMO Canola in S. Africa. When asked for additional safety information they withdrew.

Sorry I'm late getting in but I;m very gratified to see everyone here!
Since the French have been so active in reducing the numbers of GMO crops in France they are now experiencing a resurgence in bee population.
Get active, and find new ways to resist by all means. However don't forget the old ways.
Gardeners are on the front lines here. Grow heirlooms, save seeds, trade. Don't be afraid to just plant a container crop. Every seed will have meaning before this is done.

The more I read about the GM indistry - NOT just Monsanto - the more insane it is! They are not just begging for, but DEMANDING a killing blight that will not just kill off what will be, thanks to the GM industry the SOLE REMAINING FOOD PLANT VARIETIES ON EARTH, but the few remaining trees (as if a tree's only reason for existing is to provide wood), the bacteria, fungi, insects and other organisms that would have lived off the trees, the animals that would have lived off of those... In other words, they seem to envision perhaps ten or twenty different cloned plants, maybe six different animals, all to provide us with everything plants and animals provide, and they anticipate no problems with mutated diseases destroying them. Of course, Monsanto and maybe a couple of other biotech firms will own the patents on all of these (and perhaps on at least some people - which they have tried to patent before!).In the past our ONLY defense against these diseases was biodiversity.

They buy up seed producers, destroy the seeds and replace them with their own patented frankenseeds. Those seeds are always demonstrably inferior: the crops often fail, they take many times more poison to raises, they're smaller, and dammit, they're invariably poison! They also create FrankenWEEDS, as well as transmit their own weird genes (tomatoes and codfhish for instance) to other organisms, including organisms that eat them, like us. E.Coli is used somehow in one gene transfer, and it survives into the food product so that the same bacterium in our intestines may then begin producing "Roundup." And they say the glycosphate gene scrambler that's the main ingredient of Roundup is thousands of times more concentrated in these plant cells than in the spray used on the plants. So - there's poison IN the plants and ON the plants. The only reason I can see for this aside from profit is to force us to eat the stuff and die. .4cc is the toxic dose if I remember it right, but of the bottled stuff. Add the stuff produced by plants, and I have no idea how much it takes.

So as far as I can tell then, they intend to sterilize the earth of ALL life bigger than a bacterium. They're insane. Period. There just is no other possibility. Oh, and one more thing: in the U.S., the charge for acts like those in France and elsewhere won't be destruction of private property or anything like that: it will be "terrorism," and the panalties will range from 20 years to life, and probably to death. in time.

I'm very glad to see this news piece and thread - thank you Just C! GMOs should definitely be banned -- they are messing with ecosystems, insects, soil, animals and humans, and are totally unnecessary (except for evil profits and corporate control of the biosphere -- sick).

The planet should go organic! and go with heritage varieties of fruit and veges etc to preserve biodiversity in the food system.

One more thing that occurs to me: Monsanto hasn't EVER created a new species of anything - each one is the first generation of it's kind. Maybe it's due to greed alone, so that farmers have to buy it from them each growing season, or buy the seed AND the "key" chemical that unlocks their ability to grow. Regardless though, they have to make it new each time; it's not a living thing that's capable of reproducing it's own kind! And I suspect that they don't know enough to stabilize their "creations" either. They're all altered clones of the first one to succeed, by their standards, the exact same plant and animal over and over again. This also means that the organism or substance that was used to insert the new gene(s) remains as well, which is at least part of why these GMO monstroities are so much more likely to share their genes with other plants - like weeds, which are nearest to them. Exactly because it's an uneasy alliance that is NOT stable.

Dammit, we need scientists who are NOT beholden to the industry in charge of this stuff! Preferably before they damage the ecosphere and the wolrd's food supply beyond recovery.

Just like to point out that nearly all crops are sprayed with the waste products from the oil industry.
This concoction is full of Mercury and Sodiun Flouride.
Time to go Organic - Mercury has been proved beyond doubt to cause brain damage as is Sodium Flouride.
Sodium Flouride was used in large quantitiies to make the inmates docile inConcentation Camps by the Nazis and they put it in OUR WATER. The people who run the New World Order are the same who supported these Nazis - ie Rothschilds who also of course own the World Bank Federa Reserve etc.

I've just read in the Greenpeace presentation ( that 53% of the U.S. crops are genetically modified. That's enormous ! And frigthening ! I hope you can get out of that mess !

Well done Carole,and a very well organized thread.
Great comments from everybody above.
This is just one issue of many that need to be addressed,
and it just goes to the corruption of career politicians.
Hopefully all career politicians will be replaced before
throwing them all in jail, but they can be overthrown
and they must be overthrown before they can do even more damage.
With all these problems we face in the name of treason
sometimes we feel as small as an ant on the hill.
One ant feels small when fighting an elephant but 350 million angry
ants swarming and biting can take down any elephant or any donkey.
America is quickly awakening from a long snooze and one by one
are rubbing out the boogie men from their eyes.
Keep up the hard fights with the criminals within your boarders
because they are the ones hiding in plain sight- grab them and peacefully choke them out like you are attempting to do now.
There is great comfort in knowing who the real criminals are,
that is after you get past the anger.
American people have more in common with each other than differences and it is great to see you coming together to expose corporate take overs like this.Well done everybody, you ROCK.

There is so much truth people need to become awake about. Yes, Mansanto is evil. Mansanto didn't get where it is by itself. It had a lot of help from the US GOVERNMENT CORPORATION.........hmmm. lets see, people vote for politicians with the belief these politicians will be upholding an oath of office and working for "we the people", right?.........Sadly that hasn't been the case for a long, long time. Most of 'em sold out for higher corporate profits a long time ago. Doesn't matter which party, dem or rep. They just pretend to be 2 parties when they are really just one party 'secretly' in agreement about whatever will increase their profit margins. Many of those in congress have invested in Monsanto.............

We the people must wake up and say no more...........We really do have the power to make a difference.....One last thing, how many people are aware that is is UNCONSTITUTIONAL for attorneys to hold public office? It absolutely is unconstitutional yet virtually ALL politician's holding one office or the other are in fact ATTORNEYS who know how to manipulate whatever needs manipulating. Bottom line: Monsanto didn't get where it is by itself............It had lots of help from those who are supposed to be representing 'WE THE PEOPLE:"..........

This is really good news to see resistance against GMO's. I find it bothersome, however that our counties in the agricultural belt in California is less reactive to the consequences of GMO's. I believe so because of the districts within our area are so conservative in nature and do not understand or care of the consequences of these seeds. They use all the pesticides as well as herbicides along with the GMO seeds that they receive from these corporations. They have in essence followed the path of the corporations and do not seek change. Of course these are the very large operations that use rBST in their cows, the hormone used in cows made by the same corporation, Monsanto. They will grow the alfalfa that is Monsanto GMO, to feed their liivestock. Generally our congressmen will leave no waves about these products. I find this totally amazing while the troubling aspects of GMO's are felt throughout the world, yet is not an issue in our agricultural farming belt. Mainly, these politicians are in bed with Monsanto and are paid well for their representation. In essense they have become minions that serve Monsanto and the way money works, simply makes a truly democratic process, impossible. In many ways, Americans have become pushovers of a bully that will do whatever it wants!

Genetically Manipulated Crops: GMO Catastrophe in US a Lesson for the World
"The ecological time-bomb that came with the GMO according to Ho, is about to explode. Over several years of constant application of patented glyphosate herbicides such as Monsanto’s famous and highly Roundup, new herbicide-resistant “super-weeds” have evolved, nature’s response to man-made attempts to violate it. The super-weeds require significantly more not less herbicide to control.
ABC Television, a major US national network, made a recent documentary about the super-weeds under the rubric, “super weeds that can’t be killed.”[1]
They interviewed farmers and scientists across Arkansas who described fields overrun with giant pigweed plants that can withstand as much glyphosate as farmers are able to spray. They interviewed one farmer who spent almost €400000 in only three months in a failed attempt to kill the new super-weeds.
The new super-weeds are so robust that harvester combines are unable to harvest the fields and hand tools break trying to cut them down. At least 400000 hectares of soybean and cotton in Arkansas alone have become invested with this new mutant biological plague. Detailed data on other agricultural regions is not available but believed similar. The pro-GMO and pro-agribusiness US Department of Agriculture has been reported lying about the true state of US crop harvest partly to hide the grim reality and to prevent an explosive revolt against GMO in the world’s largest GMO market.
One variety of super-weed, palmer pigweed can grow up to 2.4 meters high, withstands severe heat and prolonged droughts, and produces thousands of seeds with a root system that drains nutrients away from crops. If left unchecked, it takes over an entire field in a year. Some farmers have been forced to abandon their land. To date palmer pigweed infestation in GMO crop regions has been identified in addition to Arkansas, also in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, New Mexico, Mississippi and most recently, Alabama and Missouri.
Weed scientists at the University of Georgia estimate that just two palmer pigweed plants in every 6 meter length of cotton row can reduce yield by at least 23 percent. A single weed plant can produce 450 000 seeds. [2]"

Did not see these referenced but so many good sites given already. Wildflowers have now been identified to have GM genes in them. 90% of our soybean crops are GM soybeans in this country., the bee population is on the decline. What will happen to our birds\? They are finding some of the GM corn is not growing so well after seed used after a few years, and that pigs do not reproduce as prolifically when on GM corn for feed, they are having gelatinous bags of mucus and/or fewer pigs, and cows are infertile when on GM corn. Our seed diversity is declining as Mansanto is buying up as many patents as fast as they can. In India they have run out of the native corn and can only plant Monsanto corn, farmers going bankrupt and yet committing suicide in despair. Monsanto has said they want to own the food, that is a stated goal according to first one of these videos. The corn in Mexico has been invaded by Monsanto corn, when they declared no GM allowed, found their stalks interspersed in their corn. They have 100 varieties of corn in Mexico and want desperately to protect that corn from GM effects. Nature and God decided what is best and playing with Genetic Modification is playing Russian Roulette with our food. We do not want mouse genes in tomatoes for instance to keep them fresh longer. No company should own rights to the seeds for any food, period, and we must get laws that change that. Clarence Thomas, US Supreme Court Justice was an attorney for Monsanto, and laws have changed since he has been in place, including that corporations can contribute all they want to a candidate. Do you think they will tell you why they are contributing to a candidate and give your their ugly ulterior motives? Not likely. The films here are long but you need to hear the full story, and let your mind wander. There will be no organic food as the pollen will contaminate all seed grown. Imagine a barren planet with no life on it at all - that is where Monsanto will lead us.

Thank you Carole for an excellent submission. We have been told that GM/GE crops are mainly Corn, Soy and just recently Judge White banned GM Sugar Beets (Hooray for the Judge). Now we are beginning to see all sorts of other GM crops emerging like Eggplants (in India), Alfalfa (in the USA), grapes (in France) and potatoes (in the UK). How many more species have been dicked around with and secretly introduced into our crops without our knowledge? I found the facts in this article very interesting and I am heartened by the action of people who are not scared to protect the integrity of our food supply by destroying contaminated crops! How far has this already spread and how will we be able to tell what we are eating without testing every grain/seed out there? The medical results of GMO consumption is of particular interest considering the health problems nations world wide are experiencing right now.

If only Americans had the fortitude to confront the parasitic corporations. We keep worrying about immigration, lack of employment, high taxes, etc all while we are feed poisons. We eat, drink, breathe and even absorb these poisons through our skin and only a few of us even bother to object. All we can do is make sure we keep clear of as much as possible. If the majority wish to kill themselves and their children their is little we can do. Look on the bright side, this is population control by proxy.

Pretty sad I know Luciana, but I don't think we have 14 million active members. After Ben went around pulling out some profile that were frogs after so many years and show no activity. However, I've seen petitons that have thousands of signatures, and as this issue truly affects the entire world, there should be a heck of a lot more.

When I started to push this petition there were only a hunded and fifty there abouts signatures, Carole jumped on the bandwagon, bless her heart and ran this story, so now it's up to 931 as of your writing. It is climbing, hope it continues. I know that so many hate to ask people to sign things, so not to overload email boxes, but this is one of those petitions that really should be pushed. If we do not have the ability to control our foods, if it is locked up by Monsanto, then they can play God, determing who will eat or who will not.

If we can't eat, then we will not be around to fight for the causes that are passionate to our own hearts, help the homeless, save the whales, eliminate puppy mills, whatever is the persons particular interest. If they are not able to eat, then they are not there to focus on their cause. There are just some issues, when it comes to food and water, that are vital......this is one of them.

To me, this is one of those times you push the petition, on here, Facebook, your private emails where-ever, we need to get this out on Monsanto.

Security of the world's food supply should be THE MOST IMPORTANT issue to everyone worldwide. I can't impress upon people enough the horrific future we face if we allow Monsanto's evil push to control this -- a necessity of life.

What's wrong with them is they tend to cause sterility, organ damage, nerve damage and other problems. Plus they contaminate the natural plants with GMO genes, and they're poor survivors, almost hothosue plants, that need massive amounts of herbicides and other chemicals to grow. Even then, there can be failed harvests.

In India, farmers always used to allow their water buffalo to feed on the cotton plants after the cotton harvest. Seventeen of seventeen died within three days. I'd say that's a good indicator.

Another thing is that one can't prevent the cross pollination. A farmer in Canada, Percy Schmeiser, learned the hard way on this. Monsanto sued him for his using their seed without permission, even though Percy had never purchased any of Monsantos seeds. The cross pollination was caused by the wind from a storm and Monsanto said, that if even 1 single plant on and entire farm had Monsanto seed, then the Farmer was now beholden to Monsanto, they could no longer use their own seed to replant their crops. They wanted to make this Farmer beholden to them, all that this farmer had done for 50 years of his life meant nothing, just because of some cross pollination by the wind, which Percy had no control over.

In Germany, the Country voted not to have Monsanto seed, but Monsanto fought this, so in the ruling it was stated that Monsanto had the right to do an experimental field of their seeds. This is a sneaky way of still pushing their way in on a Country that does not want them. For all that needs to happen is for the wind to blow and cross pollination to take effect. Then Monsanto will wait until enough of this is done, and bam, they will own Germany too, whether or not Germany wants them. Monsanto is vicious.
