Deep in the 2010 Budget bill that is currently being considered by Parliament, the government has placed changes that significantly weaken one of the country's most important environmental laws: the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

Noted and Signed. Thanks. This will affect us all...globally!

Reference:One Planet, Many People: Atlas of Our Changing Environment:
Canada now ranks in the top three diamond producers in the world (in terms of value) and North America is the second largest oil producing area after the Middle East.

Mining in the Northwest Territories of Canada is impacting migration routes of native caribou.

Vast reserves of low quality oil underlie the Boreal Forest surrounding Fort McMurray, Canada. By early 2006 the mining operation covered an areas roughly 30 km by 20 km.The changes in the forest due to logging between 1993 and 2000 are dramatic.

Along Gaspe Peninsula, Canada changes in the forest are dramatic and can be seen from space due to logging between 1993 and 2000

Now is a critical time to review and strengthen environmental laws to protect natural resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, human and wildlife health and safety. If we don't we are doomed.

Environental laws, rules and regulations are more important than ever in todays world for our very survival. Now is the time to review them to make sure that they have teeth enough to protect our precious and limited global resources. This affects us all world wide.
