Hello, Friends and Care2 members. If you are concerned about human rights,

~ DON'T MISS THE VIDEO AT THIS ARTICLE ~

AMERICANS are increasingly turning against the death penalty. Contrary to superstition, Friday the 13th was a "good luck" day for those who want the criminal justice system to be more just and compassionate. New Mexico Legislature repealed the death penalty with expectancy that Gov. Richardson will sign the bill into law. Besides that, Joseph Fears Jr., 61, who spent the last 25 years in an Ohio prison for a rape he did not do, was exonerated by DNA testing and released from prison. Mr. Fears has joined a growing number of innocent people who have been freed after wrongful convictions.

Since 1989, 232 persons were exonerated and freed from prison, many who had spent decades on death row, wrongfully convicted for someone else's sins while the real criminals walked among us. Mr. Fears made 233. Recent cases in the news like Mr. Fears' have exposed how easy it is for innocent people to be convicted for capital crimes, and many pay with their lives.

I am sorry. I do not believe that with as many groups as I posted this news to last night, only eight people care that NEW MEXICO IS ERASING THE DEATH PENALTY. I do not believe that only eight people care that A MAN WHO SPENT 25 YEARS IN PRISON WRONGLY ACCUSED OF RAPE WENT FREE YESTERDAY BY DNA TESTING.

I just went to my Sharebook where I posted this, and everything regarding the news being available at Care2News Network is GONE. There is no link to Care2News - only to NowPulbic. The picture icon used at Care2 is also gone and the line saying this is in US Politics and Govt.

All of this is done to curtail my freedom of press. I will not continue to stand for it. CARE2, YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR SECUTIRY. I am a member, given the same privileges of use of services as other members. Something is very wrong.

PEOPLE AT CARE2 CARE ABOUT THE DEATH PENALTY.

PEOPLE AT CARE2 CARE ABOUT PEOPLE BEING WRONGLY CONVICTED.

PEOPLE AT CARE2 CARE ABOUT THE JOY OF JOSEPH FEARS AND HIS FAMILY TODAY.

Eight notes in 10 hours is simply a lie.

I celebrate his victory, justice does come..

I am currently working on saving a persons life who is a member of Care2 and fighting for human rights and peace... I do not have time to do both... I have to choose one cause or the other... Which would you choose? I also got a handful of people who cared enough to contribute in some form or fashion...

Everything is owed to so few, who do almost everything, while most people just sit and watch. THat is the way it works it seems. Do not let it upset you...

Just keep on doing what you do and shine the light on your cause.

Thank you, Eric. Please tell us more about the choice you feel is necessary. Do you have info on both at your Sharebook? You ask which we would choose - save a life or promote a cause. I would try and find a way to do both by delegating. Many, many people CARE, but some need help getting started.

Blessings!

Thanks, Honeysuckle! This is Mr. Fears second night of freedom in 25 years! I hope he is having a good time with what's left of his family and his friends. He went to prison as a 35 year old, probably, since it takes time to get to trial. Now he is 61 and white-haired.

THANKS TO NEW MEXICO'S SENATE WHO CHOSE TO SAY DEATH TO THE DEATH PENALTY, at least in that state, people won't be dead already when we discover they were innocent.

THERE IS A FILM ABOUT A MAN THAT HAPPENED TO AT THE MAIN ARTICLE!

So many years in prison and innocent the whole time. Disgusting. This could never be made up to this man. I am so happy for him to be home with his loved ones now. Thank The Lord for DNA testing. Thanks for this happy ending story Mary. There aren't too many anymore. Thanks for sending Charles.

Yes, being a New Mexican, I am very happy now that we have paper ballots and no death penalty. Now if we can get rid of campaign contributions and make elections clean without corruption...

Sadly many people actually fear on expressing their opinion as they have succumbed to the dumbing down by our mainstream media working for the Zionist agenda
No human has the right to take the life of another human sadly this is a result of the forced breeding in ancient times with the reptilian race that visited our earth and stayed. They are found in the government and the elite elements of our society..

Did you read the comments to the article at NowPublic.com? I hope you will when you get a chance. One comment gives the description of Edward Bell's last moments on earth. He is the retarded Virginia man who was executed a couple of weeks ago.

Although many Americans are turning against the death penalty, the recent exectuion of Edward Bell brought some comments that lets one know that there is much work ahead:

One Washington Post reader wrote the following comment regarding the Bell execution:

It took 6 burly guards to get him into the chamber as he fought all the way.
Better to park a bullet in their heads while they're asleep or just pipe Nitrogen into the cell. Knuckleheads whining all the way to retribution lets Liberals get the rest of the weaklings into a tizzy.

SEEING THE LETHAL INJECTION TABLE WAITING FOR HIM IS WHAT SENT MENTALLY RETARDED CONDEMNED FATHER, EDWARD BELL (WHO USED HIS LAST MINUTES ON EARTH PROCLAIMING HIS INNOCENCE), INTO A "TIZZY."

Thank you all for reading and commenting on this important news! We made Care2News Network's front page! Thank you Care2 for providing this valuable opportunity to promote causes that we CARE about.

Has anyone heard whether the U.S. Supreme Court will allow prisoners the right to test the DNA evidence in their files, although their court cases may have been years before the accurate DNA testing method was developed?

Another innocent inmates like Mr. Fears may be locked away in a prison near you.

Bravo to all who hellped Mr. Fears, hissssssss to the corrupt system that put him away to rot. there is no reason not to use DNA testing to free these innocent, if they are found to be absolutely guilty, then so be it, but if they are innocent, my God they deserve freedom, this is ludicrous!

well, I have to say I am more than happy to see the DNA testing being used to free innocent men, but how did this guy end up with 25 years for rape when I have seen so many get a mere slap for the same crime?

I can't imagine the horrors he went through, 25 years, and he was only railroaded, I am flipping between sadness and outrage at the injustice, and happiness at his release. We can never give him back those years, so many of them.
