Since I rent rather than own, I can't put solar on the roof where I live. I had to settle for donating $10,000 to my local soup kitchen with the request that they use it for rooftop solar. Then I found out that they need to invest a lot in energy efficiency first, before they can invest in solar. By the time they get their energy use efficient, they will likely need to reshingle their roof before they can put solar panels on it.
