Sign this petition asking the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to remove The Lucky Puppy, a coloring book for children, from their web site. The coloring book claims animals in laboratories are treated kindly and wonderfully and gives a skewed view of animal experiments.

The coloring book implies that researchers are trying to cure animals that are already sickórather than purposely infecting them with diseasesóand ignores the fact that animals suffer and die in the process. The coloring book was produced by an industry trade group, the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research, whose members have a financial interest in the continuation of animal research.

The coloring book is available online.

The book erroneously portrays the lives of animals in laboratories as pleasant and carefree. Published scientific research and numerous undercover investigations clearly demonstrate that animals in laboratories suffer pain and distress from experimental procedures and routine laboratory practices. The coloring book also makes misleading claims about the benefits of animal experiments, implying that research findings from experiments on animals are directly applicable to both the animals used in research and to humans.

Please call or e-mail Christine Bruske Flowers, director of the office of communications and public liaison for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, to politely ask her to remove the link to the coloring book from the Web site.

Thank you!

Got no idea Rebecca. It is pure fabrication this book, telling children that animals at labratories are treated kindly and that animal testing is necessary. Ban the bloody book I reckon. Full of rubbish.

look into the eyes of that poor tortured soul and tell me that a normal, decent person can do that to an animal. the following is from the website, the truth about vivisection:

Researchers claim that they must be allowed unfettered access to animals for experiments in order to find cures for human diseases, yet they refuse to address the serious ethical problems of torturing sentient creatures for research purposes. On top of that, over-reliance on animal experimentation has historically hindered scientific advancement and endangered human safety because results from animal research typically cannot be applied to humans. In fact, scientists could save more human lives by using humane non-animal research and testing methods that are more accurate and efficient.

for years i have the desire, every time i read a story like this to do this to the scientists and their bosses. i am not bloodthursty, i am vegan since 76, but this is so barbaric, i would love to give these immitations of a human being what they deserve, pain for pain, tear for tear, cry for cry and fear for fear, i really do!!!!!i really hate them and wish them a very painful and shameful death, all of them!!!
