"I just started crying because he walked up and just put his head on my chest and stood there," said Saldate. How could someone do this to any animal let alone your own animal? My heart goes out to Solo Vino, and I hope he makes a full recovery. Kudos to those that are trying to save him.
Thank you Simone.

Folks, I know money is tight for us all, but if you can PLEASE donate just a little to help out this poor soul. I know if enough of us send $5 or $10, we can help get this baby the care he needs and deserves. PLEASE crosspost this story and help as you can. THANKS!!!

Friends,

Here is an update on the status of this horse:

March 8, 2009 message from Gwen Cleary:
Thank you for your care and concern, Equine Voices and Sanctuary is going to take Solo to his new home as soon as he is well enough to make the trip. Our main concern on the 3rd of March when he came to me was to get him immediate vet care and Karen at Equine Voices was there to help. We immediately got the vet out and started raising money to help for his x-rays and possible surgery.

I had no response from the Sheriff after 7 or 8 attempts to contact them, they did not respond back, nor did the Mesa Police feel it was "their department" and the Humane Society was too "busy". I felt I had to reach out to the public and it has been overwhelming, the support. Donations are being accepted by Equine Voices Sanctuary or some people have wanted to donate directly to the veterinarian which is okay too but, of course, that is not tax-deductible.

I am fostering Solo until he can be well enough for transport ..he is going to the hospital tomorrow. I know of Jim and his wonderful sanctuary and would have contacted him except he was full the last time I tried to donate a pregnant mare to him that was rescued from a slaughter auction so I did not try to contact him again. I am quite aware that all of the rescues and sanctuaries are overwhelmed right now.

And with the poor Department of Agriculture we have here and lack of police protection for these defenseless horses who are being abused, starved and sent to killer auctions, people are unaware that this has been going on for a long time in Arizona. The dirty little secret is that the Department of Agriculture, when they confiscate a horse or horses in abuse cases, find abandoned or starving ones in the desert, they just turn around and send them to the slaughter auction in Chandler and make a death trip to Mexico to a slaughterhouse and then sold overseas. So the fact that Solo has been saved by the public instead of the Sheriff or the Dept of Agriculture is a blessing for this horse.

If you would like to pass on the information on where to donate for him, it is here.. thank you .. Gwen Cleary
