No Decision on Reintroducing Cheetah in the Wild: Govt

No decision has been taken on reintroduction of cheetah in the wild in the country though four of them were acquired by a zoo in Gujarat this year under an animal exchange programme, the government said today.

If they are introduced in the wild, they will need a lot of protection from poachers and villagers.

I have to agree Bee Hive. The authorities have not done a very good job in protecting the big cats they already have (the Asiatic lion, tiger, snow leopard, and leopard), as all of them except perhaps the leopard are close to extinction and the leopard numbers ARE declining.
