It's already a felony to abuse companion animals. Horses could soon be included in that group if a new bill passes, but the piece of legislation is facing opposition from the Farm Bureau.

I would say the Farm Bureau Insurance Co is wrong about this issue. I was at this committee hearing and I support Rep. Janis Santany's bill 100%. A large contingent of Farm Bureau agents came to the meeting an hour early to claim every seat in the room. Those in support of HB3386 were forced to stand in the aisle or out in the hall. The people that starved 84 horses in Cannon County last fall, if convicted are going to face a sentence of a misdemeanor. That's what Tennessee's law is now. We can do better. That's just wrong on so many levels.
