Wombats are wonderful animals living only in some areas of Australia. Sadly, in these areas they often come into conflict with farmers who complain about their burrows and their delight in digging under fences.

Once signed and sent the page reloads for a request to help the wombats - sarcoptic mange. Please take the time to read it, and donate if you can. Even the smallest creature deserves help.
====================================================================

arcoptic Mange is a killer. Wombats with mange simply do not recover alone. The itch caused by this mite is insatiable (trust me, I know!) and for the poor wombat, there is no relief in site...their anxiety is devastating.

You can help! Do you know it only costs us 5 cents to save the life of a newly infected wombat?

Treatment is simple, finding help isn't.

There are wombats everywhere suffering with Sarcoptic mange, volunteers are needed in all wombat habitat. Please contact us if you can assist by donating time, medications or petrol, travel for debilitated wombats or constructing simple self treatment systems. There is lots to do but you will make a difference!

WAO received their first grant from the Foundation of National Parks and Wildlife! Thank you to the Wombat Protection Society of Australia who's invention of 'self treatment flaps' will be trialled for the first time on the Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat!

Poor little wombats. Too bad man can't co-exist with animals. Their first action is always to kill. Here, its moles. They burrow & "ruin" peoples perfect lawns. They use horrible traps on them. My yard is a no kill zone. I do get annoyed when they burrow in my garden tho. I just have to keep stomping their tunnels back into the ground. They have the softest fur ever. Signed & noted. Thanx for all, Simone

Merci, Simone, j'ai signé et noté. Another wonderful animal suffering humain cruelty towards them. More efforts to find treatment for mange suffering animals (all kinds) so more will survive. The pain that wombat is in can be identified just by the facial expressions, sad. It is great that the Wombat Protection Society of Australia are taking this probleme seriously. Good luck!

Plant extra crops to allow for losses or keep a natural predator or dog on the land as a deterent. Scent from predatory animals can sometimes be enough to drive off an animal. Killing them is just cruel and lazy.

It is about time that something was done to protect wombats. why does it always have to wait until they are on the edge of extinction. I'm sorry to admit that I have always just assumed that they area protected species.

When will farmer's stop killing everything. Just because you farm the land, doesn't mean you really own it. God owns the land, and he placed animals about the land for man to enjoy, not kill. Maybe farmer's should start reading the bible again...maybe they'll learn to get along with the other creatures we share the earth with....

Wombats are a lovely fat non-aggressive creature like a Koala without a tree. Some friends and I once came across a wombat while bushwalking. It immediately started digging itself into the ground to escape us (but we would have loved to love it) and within a couple of minutes it had disappeared from sight. They're not really cuddly and have powerful claws for digging so don't cuddle them, just enjoy looking at them.
I'm appalled to learn how weak our so-called protection can be, but farmers have too much power here and though many are now very active in the environmental movement many are still ready to shoot anything that does even the slightest damage on their property or nibbles a blade of grass or two.
