Indochinese tiger once prowled Vietnam's forests in large numbers. Today, they are being pushed to the edge of extinction in a country that is now considered a transit hub for Big Cat products.

Noted. The plight of tigers worldwide is truly dire. A once magnificent creature now virtually hunted to the brink of extinction...is murdered for profit and farmed, to be breed and ultimately murdered again. What man has done to this creature (and most other big cats) is a black spot on the face on humanity. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

It is so sad that Vietnam is not tough enough on poachers and traffickers. It would be nice if there were a global law that trumped the nations laws especially when it comes to endangered species. Poachers and people who exploit animals should not have any form of haven to continue their despicable trade and practice.

Horrifying.
ALL countries must enforce heavy jail terms and fines to anyone involved.
ALL poachers should be shot on the spot, like the rangers do with gorilla poachers.
The insanity has to end.

This is so sad because they don't have a chance against man and we don't have a right to kill off these beautiful beautiful animals for money this has got to end TODAY!!!

Until man respects animals and considers them as fellow travellers, with a purpose to fullfill this will go on. There's BIG MONEY to be made, as long as someone out there is wanting a fur coat, meat on their plate, to be entertained, to have a new lipstick, a pure breed pet, and anything else one can think of.
We, the ordinary citizens have the power to stop so much of animal suffering,
we don't need the government mandating laws, we just need to be conscious of what constitues animal cruelty and stop supporting it, boycott events, products, countries etc.
Come on people, WE CAN DO THIS, we're 14 million strong !

THIS HAS GOT TO STOP, there doesn't seem to be one animal in the world that is safe from man and his hunting and killing., what does it take to stop these people? We really need the laws changed with a lot harsher penalty's for anyone hurting wild animals. All native animals need protection. Domestic animals too need protecting, some owners do not deserve the animals they have.

we need to teach vietnam the advantage to protecting tigers. it adds to tourism which means more money for them.

we may not be able to control what Vietnam does (other than boycott and public opinion) but we sure can control what is brought onto our shores. By this I mean make the importing of tiger skin fur coats, tiger byproducts, etc. Make the fines huge...I don't mean something that the wealthy can just write a check out for, but big time and time in jail...cleaning out litter boxes in animal shelters!!!!

They also seem to have a love of rhino horn and elephant ivory. Makes me sick to have to share this one planet with such vile people who rob Earth of its beauty and essential biodervisty because of greed.

Another example of a terrible mistake that humans are making! How CAN we still be reading of these awful things, when there is so much knowledge now, in the world about the dangers of extinction of these lovely animals? How can anyone look at these absolutely perfectly astounding animals and even THINK of slaughtering them? It is beyond our comprehension. There MUST be another way for the people to make money, SURELY?? I must go for a cycle ride to de-stress about this!

What's that olde saing, "a society is judged by how they treat the lesser."

What I read is digusting and criminal...LET'S PUT A STOP TO IT, any ideas let me know.

Vietnam must institute policies to protect its tiger species as well as establish tough laws that prosecute those involved in any kind of exploitation of these tigers.

Yet another south east asian country with no soul. The vietnamese are not capable of empathy or understanding what the extinction of these big cats will mean to the ecosystem in which they live. There is not enough that can be done to these people to make up for what they do to wildlife.

I agree, all governments need to use their heads of state to make swift policy and jointly agree to enact said policy to safeguard against illegal activity of all sorts on all fronts. With global-closeness at hand, handshakes first must be imminently eminent.

Although the Vietnamese and other Asian peoples' superstitious beliefs about consuming animal parts to gain characteristics of that animal are no more off-centre than Western beliefs in father-figure god, afterlife and directions from the sky, the Vietnam government might take an enlightened step and punish poachers and traders at the least.

I am sorry to say but in my book these people are stupid - Asian superstitions and their little potions brought many animals to the brink of extinction. Bear torture = gallbladder extraction is another idiotic belief. Stupidity must die out!!!!!

ArjaN. said it all! These people are stupid and have these stupid superstitions which they use as an excuse to kill these wonderful animals - actually they are barbaric and cannot to be civil to animals or humans. Just look at some of their stupid customs which gives them a good excuse to torture and kill animals for entertainment.

Once the tiger is gone, it's gone forever and any nation would be foolish to give back to them if they didn't protect these previous resources in the first place. Whatever happens to the beast will happen to man.
