With nearly 94,000 horses slaughtered in 2009 alone, Canada's horse slaughter industry is among the largest in the world and a shameful betrayal of our loyal companions. There have been many reported cases of animal welfare violations in Canadian

Thank you for taking action to support C-544 to help horses
STEP 3: Circulate our petition. Once enough signatures are collected in each riding, deliver them to your MP to strengthen our message!

A. Download and print the petition: Petition [PDF]

B. Get a minimum of 25 people in your electoral riding to sign the petition. Reprint the second page of the petition as needed for additional signatures.

Tip: It's so easy to get signatures in your riding! You can ask neighbors to sign, gather signatures at busy street corner or shopping mall in your area, circulate at a local school and more!

C. Once you have gathered at least 25 signatures on the petition, please contact your Member of Parliament and request that he or she read out the petition in the House of Commons at the earliest session.

You can either speak to your MP by phone and mail the petition to him or her, or request a meeting to deliver it in person. If your MP agrees to read out the petition, please give him or her the original and send a photocopy to: HSI/Canada, C-544 petition, 372 St. Catherine St. West, Suite 319, Montreal, QC, H3B 1A2

Alternately, you can send the original to us and we will contact your MP on your behalf. However, we strongly encourage you to do this personally -- it will send a much stronger message that there is strong support for Bill C-544 in your riding!

Noted, enough animals are slaughtered to eat, there is no need to kill horses for European rich bastards. The BLM have no right taking horses from their native lands, rounding them up like sheep, some even die in the process. Running the horses hard and long over uneven ground with rocks they can become lame and have to be shot or foals who just cant keep up and die of exhaustion. If there not shipped off, the BLM can go on to keep some in holding pens for years.

Some of the excuses the BLM makes for their round ups are laughable. They removed some saying their was not enough drinking water, when there was a bloody great lake slap bang in the middle of the horses grazing land. Another is "there isn't enough grazing, so we must move them" only to substitute the horses with cow's! Yes...cows win because they are money machines in the form of a burger....IT MUST BE STOPPED.

Horses are flight animals not fight. Imagine their fear stood in line waiting to be butchered, the smell the fear. The bolt gun normally used in Canada is intended to penetrate bovine skulls and hit the brain. An equine brain sits much further back in the skull, therefore they are only stunned so fully concious whilst bled out. In Mexico they use a knife to severe the spinal cord. In either case it can take numerous blows or cuts to get it right first time due to the horses not being restrained properly. Also poorly trained, uncaring staff who don't care who many strikes it takes; imagine what the horse next in line must feel like.

The race industry is one of the biggest contributors, constantly foaling to get the right one, so many are killed, even if they make it to the track, if they don't bring in the money, their end is a butchers knife.
Another contributor to the slaughter house are the PMU mares, those who urine is collected to make the HRT DRUG, PREMARIN etc. These poor mares stand for most of their 11 month pregnancy's unable to move or lie down, with sores from the bags strapped around them to collect their urine, highly concentrated when water is denied the mares. When the foal is born it is taken straight away from its mother, killed there or sent to fattening farms for slaughter. The poor mare will spend approximately 4-8 years, constantly being impregnated again and again to produce the precious urine, never being allowed to see or keep her babies. And through out this continuing cycle may only be taken out of her hell stall for grass once or twice a year if lucky; only ending when she is no longer valid, then shipped to slaughter. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PRACTICE, USE SYNTHETIC HRT PRODUCTS.

People are mis-led, most think its just the old or weak that go to slaughter, on the contrary, they want fit healthy horses, ones with plenty meat...It breaks my heart, I have horses (one saved from slaughter) they are gentle sentient beings who love to please and just want to be loved. They have carried us through wars, been invaluable in early farming, mining, the real wild west etc. The industrial revolution was in part, formed on the back bone of horses.
DON'T THEY DESERVE A MORE DIGNIFIED END?? WE MUST ABOLISH HORSE SLAUGHTER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION....PERIOD
