Why are the government prepared to go to such underhand, illegal and extreme lengths to fraudulently prevent a bill coming to parliament on such a relatively trivial matter?

I can understand if it was something to do with national security or some major economic decision but what on earth are they doing risking being exposed as crooked over just a few animals?

I love animals and this is a nice victory for animal welfare but compared with wars and globalisation this is not a major issue that needs corrupt interference.

What a great guy!! I actually listened to him twice as it is a true pleasure to listen someone making such a brave stand, such people are heroes, and we don't have enough of these in politics.God protect him!

I guess, he exposed the true nature of how politics works, not just in UK, but everywhere. First it's bribery and if unsuccessful they will be threatened into compliance, and if that didn't work either, we hear news soon after of a sudden accident or death of such a person.

Dirty politics, indeed. Sometimes, it takes just one incidence to make a difference on a larger scale, who knows what his bravery might have triggered in others who may have found themselves in similar predicaments, but were too scared to speak up.

Thanks for the article, Simone and Scott for forwarding. Will forward myself right now.

Pointless, they are to lilly livered to make it law, cowards and hypocrites at the top will ignore this in the uk.

MPs defy government and agree to ban on use of circus animals

Cheers Simone...

This does not surprise me in the least. My Dad told me... (some years ago, when I was sprouting off about something) as an MP you must go along with what your Prime Minster tells you to agree with or you get the whip!! I remember saying to my Dad... What! Does that sound like a bloody democracy to you? No, he said, but that is what we have until it is changed!! I said, well, I am going to bloody well change that!! He said, well, good luck with that!? Needless to say, I didn't get to change it, as you see here!! Looks like MP Mark will be getting the whip!!

Good luck to him , you have to make a stand with your beliefs and principles! Are you a man or a mouse? MP Mark just proved in this incident that he is a man!

Scott, when I read this article then your comment I remembered a poem of Imam Al Shafi'i,

We blame our time though we are to blame.
No fault has time but only us.
We scold the time for all the shame.
Had it a tongue, it would scold us.

Thank you Simone for posting and Sandra for forwarding

What a great analogy of the entire power struggle! Thanks for the post and comments.

The truth is being revealed slowly and surely.
Once people see the truth we can no longer pretend that it isn't so. :)

Noted and thanks, Simone, for the article. Right on, Scott... you, too, Elias [loved the poem]. This is frivolous stupidity... but then we should be used to that by now. Happens here in the United States all the time!

I cannot imagine why would the Prime Minister make a threat over this? Is he that much of a Bastard, and Animal hater?

A true Man & a Hero is one who will venture to take a dare & a chance to make a difference! Mark Pritchard is a man of his words & today that stand for something as all we seem to hear are big LIES, threat, deceit, empty promises that lead to the corruption we are in today because of good men that were blinded by gr$$d! And the lack of Love & Integrity for his fellow brothers/sisters. Thanks Simone.

Animals have been used since medieval times for the entertainment of people in circuses, arenas and in sports. A relatively backward country like Pakistan famous for being a terrorist house banned the use of animals quite some years back. Quite civilised of them i think for people who are considerd barbarians.

But i personally wonder how far we have come as civilized humans if we still find entertainment in violence or need to see animals perform functions that they were never meant to do. having zoos is a different argument where animals are at least not whipped to be trained to do something for the enjoyment of others.

We need to readress these old world entertainments and practices.

I would l love to know the reason behind the PM's attitude! There must be somthing 'dodgey' going on that we don't know about! Otherwise it is totally illogical. It is always very hard to get the entire story. Is there any way that we can get a petition going to tahnk Mark Pritchard for standing up for what he believed in, despite the pressure being pu on him? Thanks Simone!

Amazing that there are still some who will stand up for what is right -- interestingly, many do, but we rarely hear of it.
