Common sense wold say that these"cold cells" are a serious 8th Amendment violation; but especially egregious for county sheriffs. Since county jail is also just a holding facility until trial or bail ,etc, you would have INNOCENT people being tortured, as in this case. The sheriff and a few of his cohorts need some time in a federal "cooler".(Prison) Never going to happen, its just a wish. But deep down, this Supreme Court doesn't leave me with much confidence that they will rule against the sheriff. Then every police lockdown facility is going to want one or two or three of their own.Viola, a new industry is born, building cold cells. Man made "Siberia".

Noted, but couldn't sign (for US citizens only). This is shokking and hasn't got anything to do with punishment anymore; this is torture!

there certainly seems to be a misconception about what torture is. Waterboarding, cold forth. I guess the powers that be think torture only in terms of medieval devices such as the iron maiden, thumb screws and the rack. In that context, of course they dont torture. What they are doing is merely "behavior modification", yeah, that's the ticket, sure! Just don't try this at home kiddies.

noted and signed, thanks SImone. Makes me wonder, since we hear SO MUCH more of this kind of now days, if this is something that has just begun over the past 10 years or if this kind of stuff happened (as often as now) all along. If this has been going on for more than the past 10 years, why are we only beginning to hear so often about this? I realize that there have been incidents of rogue law enforcement, etc forever, but just seems to me that since 9/11, anyone and anything is fair game. This is unacceptable!

Some of us, are permitting ourselves to become barbariana.
As our way of life deteriorates, more people will become more hateful, unfortunately.
We allowed this to happen with the last Administration. If we are not intelligent enough, to rid ourselves of Big Business, Tea Party Republicans, we can expect the situation to worsen. The Bushies started this downward trend and reversing it, is arduous, to say the least.

signed and noted Thanks Simone. It seems that prisons are a breeding ground for sadists! It is terrifying how many innocent people seem to be going to jail! It is horrifying! If only there was an alternative way of dealing with people who obviously haven't committed a crime worthy of going to jail, where they can be subjected to treatment that would be cruel, even to the worst criminal. I sometimes despair of how things like this can still be going on in 'civilized' countries!
