Good news! A court order has been issued to stop the animal sacrifice.

Minister Mervyn Silva today intervened to rescue animals meant for sacrifice in temples in the Chilaw area.

A Court order had already been issued to prevent the sacrifice of the animals, but Minister Silva arrived at the Badhra Kali kovil and said that no one will be allowed to carry-out sacrifice of animals.

Hundreds of goats and cockbirds were lined up to be sacrificed.

Mr. Silva questioned the people as to who the owners of the animals and no one turned up to claim ownership.

“I won’t beat you up, tell me why you have brought these animals to be scarified. I too believe in God Badhara Kali. But my belief is that there is no necessity to sacrifice animals," he said.

Later one of the elderly persons turned up to claim ownership for the cockbirds and in turn he was handed over the bird.

On the Minister’s instructions a couple of tractors were brought from the town and the animals were taken to the Chilaw police

Animal sacrifice has no place in any faith, and it detests God greatly.

People associated with Badhra Kali kovil has no rights to kill animals. But if Badhra Kali kovil people really want to kill lives, they can kill their own SONS, DAUGHTERS! We are not going to protest then!

some traditions have to be respected, but animal sacrifice is despicable, horrendous and cruel ! Minister Silva shows lots of inteligence and sympathy for nature ! that is cool!

A small battle has been won in the war against animal sacrifice. Kudos to all involved and may many more battles be won until victory can be claimed against this barbaric practise.
