I can accept, to a degree, certain customs of other countries or societies. But, regardless if the animal is used for food or not, NO animal should be processed for human consumption while it is still alive. Thanks Simone for bringing this to our attention.

Every country has certain customs and traditions that they adhere to, but if it involves blatant and wanton cruelty to any living animal than just because its tradition or custom doesn't mean its right. So glad this festival has been banned although I expect many of the dogs will still be slaughtered in the most inhumane ways imaginable.

Rhenn R. you ask, and rightly so, ""Where the hell do these people come from, that will do things like that? "

That's exactly where they come from.........hell. Our planet fits every definition of hell.

Any observant people, if their eyes are open, will see that ordinary people are not capable of perpetuating these horrors that are happening on our planet.

We're at war with the negative powers (whatever you call them). There is a dark power out to destroy us.

But we are gaining ground,.

Alone, we can do almost nothing.

Together we are changing our world,....

OMG! How vile, disgusting, evil, cruel and inhumane can a person be??? I have read and signed a lot of these horrific and appalling petitions and they NEVER FAIL TO MAKE ME SICK! How do these people sleep at night after they have beaten, boiled, stabbed, struck and boiled alive these precious souls??? I know we must eat but there IS A WRONG WAY AND A RIGHT WAY TO DO EVERYTHING AND THIS IS WRONG, WRONG ,WRONG! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF YOU ANIMAL LOVERS WHO TOOK A STAND AND STOPPED THE SLAUGHTER. I only hope that those who participate in these evil killings will learn about compassion, caring and being humane.Just know this, that we all are held responsible for what we do on this earth and those that are doing these horrific murders better be prepared.

That country has got to have the most disturbed culture ever in the history of human existence. Their cruelty is just never ending. It's like they are genetically incapable of empathy. It's not just the killing of animals but the apparent joy in doing so in the most horrific way. Actually, this seems to be a cultural component in all of aoutheast asia, not just China.

humans hurting animals. humans hurting human animals. humans huring environment. We live on the same planet, we are all earthlings. We all have done wrong. SO when we do right, we should celebrate and nurture.

In USA the laws said Troy must die! So we fight with all we are able too. The law killed Troy.

HUMANS MURDERING ANIMALS. HUMANS MURDERING HUMANS. HUMANS KILLING THE ENVIRONMENTS. HUMANS MURDERING TROY BECAUSE they said he murdered a man.

Those who killed troy and all those involved, are now murderers!!

In England, I learnt when I was in school as a child that the last person who was killed by the governement was innocent.

A man who was a proven criminal in history, was given a job as one of the head of security.

The government cry for justice, but what is justice and BY whose standards are we all judged to such a severe degree as to cause death on an individuals life?

Those who killed Troy, are murderers. I wonder what they will say in many many many years to come...even perhaps after our time on earth... will they say the same thing about that poor UK prisoner who was killed by the UK governement...ooopps sorry we hung the wrong man.

The governments say they listen to the people. I think the worlds governments have selective hearing. All those people petitioning, campaigning, who listened?

RIP Troy, and all those who lost their lives due to man most unkind and most unjust to the extreme of stealing your life. They say 'it is wrong to steal,' but we are sorry that they stole your life. RIP and may your family and friends find peace some day.

Every country has a history or a culture. Because the culture is also made by humans it might be good or bad. The culture which violates human and animal rights should be given up or abolished. The culture which respects human and animal rights should be practiced. In Spain the bull fighting was declared as culture, if such things happen in China and if they declare dog meat festival as culture then how sad it would be. Animal Rights activists have done a great job and they should continue putting pressure on China for animal rights.

I DO NOT CONDONE ANY CRUELTY, TORTURES, SLAUGHTERS ANYWHERE. IT MAKES ME FEEL SICK TOO, BUT itis better to TAKE ACTION, then for me to do nothing or write emotive language.

Its dangerous to say 'kill the .....' (what ever people write because they feel very passionate about lives, or something,) and it is only too easy to do especially when we see animals from all over the world and on our streets, hung up like strange fruit of a bad tree. Please I beg of you to becareful what we write when feeling angry, because I read recently some wrote elsewhere, 'kill the abusing bastards.' I dont think they really ment this. They only said this because they were upset and frustrated at not being able to prevent the abuse.

Unfortunately someone took this as a genuine death threat. And they were investigated and arrested.

What use would we be to the animals and others, when someone took a emotive statement tooo too seriously?

I hate the way animals, humans, environment are abused, tortured, slaughtered.

I hate the way animals, humans, environment are abused, tortured, slaughtered. I hate the way people boil, or burn etc animals alive for what ever reason.

Since being on Care2.com I have learnt that there are many people who do this around the whole world. Some do it for perverse sexual gratification, for money, for their pound of flesh and blood, for entertainments, there are those who loves to burn animals because they think it is funny or for art.

IN India, they have donkey charities, to protect them from being abused as much as possible. They are there to support those involved with donkeys.

India is going through a change and the huge demand for cheap products and labour from the rich countries, are creating a change but at the cost of creating slave animal and human labour and at the cost to the environment.

Many people who are involved in donkeys, (animals, horses too) are abusing, torturing, slaughtering, eating the very donkeys India is built on. The backs of horse and donkeys, have created most nations. They have been forced to give their todays, and tomorrows so humans have have what they want, so that humans can have our todays and tomorrows.

So what I am saying, is that if that donkey petition and the actions regarding the solicitors, is succesful in recieving justice, change in animal welfare regulations & laws, and introduction of a complete animal welfare education, then surely this will help change the world for a better place. The children will know and behave better, where their older generations failed.

PERHAPS A UN ANIMAL RIGHTS BILL SHOULD BE PASSED. PERHAPS in both the UN HUMAN RIGHTS AND A UN ANIMAL RIGHTS, SHOULD STRONGLY INCLUDE BETTER WELFARE LAWS. BETTER WELFARE REGULATIONS. BETTER EDUCATION. FOR ANIMALS, FOR PEOPLE, FOR THE ENVIRONMENTS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

SO WHEN HUMANS FINALLY GET SOME-things-right, we would do well to celebrate the good things NO matter how small. Remember, 'one small step for man: One giant leap for human species.' (OK I know I changed it.)

Well done animal activists FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. A huge step. A huge step and well done to those in China to took that first step to make the final decision to DOG EATING FESTIVAL .

We hear of the sickening cruelty ,but we don't have to watch what the brave activists have to stand by and give witness to,there are good kind people in China who want this insanity stopped ,the horrible agonising deaths these poor animals endure is beyond any understanding,at least they are starting to know the rest of the world is aware and looks on in horror at what they are doing.

IT is about time the whole world gets in to line with kindness and compassion. The times we live in is not so great in some aspects. I care deeply for example about the rainforest. Look what is happening there.

What any one does to hurt another life, is wrong. Maybe one day, there will be no more animal abuse or human abuse.

When one reads of all the atrocities that come out of China one wonders about the glories that this country is supposedly legend for. From what I've read and seen on TV, anything that moves is there to be eaten. Sentimentality is a strict no no. Have the Chinese always been this insensitive to all most humans hold dear or is it that centuries of hardship and strife have inured them to human feelings? It's seldom that you hear of anything good coming out of China. Why is this?

Noted Simone. 600 years of dogs. China must have needed the animals protein at one time and perhaps some do in the present. Every country, culture, person and religion must look to themselves and what they do to other species on this planet before pointing fingers and throwing disgust. Do you eat veal, lobster, clams? Enjoy a hunt to kill, find bird, cattle, horse, pig, snake, rabbit, quail, fishing and other edible protein with intent to eat exciting and salivating? In the U.S.A., we have a traditional celebration coming up and more according to religions and cultures - around the entire human inhabited world. Make a death of these creatures as quick, painless and terror free as possible. Thank these creatures for their gift of their lives for yours.

China may be an 'emerging super power' but they have a lot to learn about compassion - how do you change the psyche of people who for hundreds of years have thought nothing of torturing animals which are regarded as mere objects - they certainly have a lot of evolving to do - and thanks to all activists who tirelessly fight for the cause of all animals.

A provincial government spokesman told local media: "Some villagers argued that they had emotional attachments to the festival, as it had been passed from generation to generation, while some said it should be listed as the city's cultural heritage."

Cruelty, barbarism and abuse can NEVER, EVER be classified as "culture"!

"According to the Austrian Times, the habit of dog eating is traced to a Ming Dynasty legend when a general tried to invade a city late at night, but was thwarted when local dogs barked to raise the alarm.

The general killed all the dogs in the area and when the troops finally conquered the city, they celebrated by eating the dogs they had."

Oh dear. And for THIS reason they torture and murder some 15,000 dogs every year?
