It is difficult to imagine that the delicacy of chocolate has caused such anguish to the lives of children in West Africa. More than ten years ago the Cocoa Protocol was created with the ultimate goal of ending child labor, slavery and trafficking.

Signed and noted. Why is it that children, fromt a very early age, are seen as money-makers rather than future resources and potential leaders who need to be loved, guided and educated? Such blatant abuse and disregard for something as precious as innocent children is reprehensible! The abuse and exploitation of children needs to stop!

This is purely because of the sweet companies. They set the amount that they will pay forcing the farmers to use the cheapest form of labour, their children. This means that they cannot go to school and then are forced into the poverty of being a cocoa bean farmer as there is nothing else for them.

It always comes down to pure greed and the power of big corporations who don't want to take any responsibility.

and the other hand continue the practice of child slavery.

Without a doubt, child slavery should be abolished, as well as ANY type of slavery on ANYONE.

Having said that, we Americans must not forget that we are guilty of enslaving children as well. Surely, we all realize that slaves in the South were not, all adults. We have a lot to reconcile, concerning our past.
