Far too many turn a blind eye even police when it comes to animals. Yet having seen some of the American rescue programmes, the police act themselves. It is time that this was made a felony throughout America.

"The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them. That's the essence of inhumanity."
- George Bernard Shaw, American author.

Signed, somewhat reluctantly. Signed because I agree with the importance of bringing the perpetrators of such animal cruelty to justice, reluctantly because the petition letter is... odd, poorly spelled and punctuated, and could use some editing. The pettition letter ends with "We can not get any where with our case, and need publics help".

It seems to me that letter actually sent to the judge is an appeal for people to sign the letter. Which is silly. It doesn't really seem to address the recipient.

Also, is the recipient in a position to do something about it? I don't know anything about the powers of this judge, and it would seem to me to be a matter for the police and the district attourney's office. The poor spelling doesn't give me confidence that proper research has been done on who to send this to.

@ Gillian Miller

What on earth made you think G.B.Shaw is an American author? George Bernard Shaw was an IRISH writer, critic and social and political campaigner. He lived in London, England for nearly all of his adult life.

George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 2 November 1950)[1] was an Irish playwright and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. Although his first profitable writing was music and literary criticism, in which capacity he wrote many highly articulate pieces of journalism, his main talent was for drama, and he wrote more than 60 plays. Nearly all his writings address prevailing social problems, but have a vein of comedy which makes their stark themes more palatable. Shaw examined education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege.

"There is no excuse nor justification for this sort of callous, wanton cruelty. If a person takes it upon him- / herself to own an animal - though I ocnsider the idea of "owning" an animal repugnant - they must be made responsible for and accountable for the well being of that animal. If the authorities are unwilling to enforce what laws there are - and I cannot imagine that there are none - then they are just as culpable and ought to be publicly flogged along with the common, vulgar miscreants whose responsibility the care of these animals was."

Signed. Starvation is as painful and appalling for animals as it is for humans. Where is the empathy? Where is the compassion? What are we teaching our children? What we can learn from animals by caring for and living in harmony with them is far more lasting and valuable than what we gain from eating them. Animals teach us how to be better humans.

I felt sick when I saw this photo of this horse that was allowed to starve to death. Many people must have noticed it's deteriorating state and obviously did nothing. Please find and jail the person responsible , and those that did nothing ----- YOU DISGUST ME These people are just as guilty. Some humans are pathetic. May KARMA reach you all soon.

This just made me weep. To put an animal through such suffering is beyond cruelty. I've signed and put it on Facebook for a number of my friends to sign.
This person that starved this animal to death should receive the full, maximum sentence. There is no justification for such cruelty.

What is going on in this country with these small town sheriffs? They seem to be gun happy and more than willing to shoot anything that gets in their way or they're willing to look the other way when one of the good old boys does something like this to an innocent animal. Perhaps they shouldn't be allowed to function without supervision. Starving an animal to death warrants some sort of investigation.

signed. Never have seen a horse this thin! What the hell is wrong that the authorities didn't WANT to step in. Not that they "couldn't step in" (what excuse for that??). Was the sheriff married to the owner's sister? This excuse for a human needs to be hot tarred and feathered.

Okay, so please explain to me why this supposedly happened in Alabama, and the person starting this petition says it happened on the road she lives on, but it says she lives in Oakville, Washington, which as a Washington State resident, I know is near Centralia, and nowhere near Alabama. If this happened in Washington State, I don't believe that Animal Control would have not stepped in if they'd been notified. A few more "facts" befoe I sign, please.

I can't believe the number of people who "noted and signed" without reading a single fact, of which there were none stated. The person claiming to "live on the road" this horse died on is not even in the same state! She didn't post the article, Simone did. This supposedly happened in Alabama, and the person claiming to live on the same road says she lives in Oakville, WASHINGTON. Check out the spelling and grammar. This sounds like something completely made up. If this was in Washington State, I can assure you, that IF any complaints to Animal Control had been made, this horse wouldn't have looked like the one in the photo, which could have been taken anywhere, at any time, even decades ago.

Lori K (56)
Tuesday October 25, 2011, 11:19 pm
It's too sad, no matter where, or how, it happened.

Diane L (110)
Tuesday October 25, 2011, 11:27 pm
I've checked out the information as posted on the "site" directed to, and the "writer" (not Simone) has no credentials, no information, and has stated only that she lives in Oakville, Washington, which actually is near Centralia, off of I-5. There are no news stories about this "event", and the judge mentioned (checked that out as well) has several websites, including one with all actions taken, none referring to any starved animals.

Several people reflected horror at the photo shown. Has NOBODY wondered how this photo was taken? Has nobody thought it could have been taken from another story, long ago and posted somewhere on the internet? If this is indeed, factual, then I'd like to read more details. WHEN were authorities called, and what was the response? WHO investigated? WHO took this photo? I doubt Lisa, in Oakville WASHINGTON took the photo.

BTW, not that it's that important, but a point was made about this horse being supposedly "only" 4 years old. Horses are rarely snow white at that age. They're rarely BORN white, and they "grey" with age, usually not until well after they are 4 years old. I am highly suspicious about this whole thing. It wouldn't be the first time Care.2 has run with a completely phony story and has had to retract it. If anyone wants to check it out, they ran with the story of a supposedly abandoned dog named "Lucky" (again in my area) and it was 100% false information and the article was removed. Those who signed the petition to prosecute the people responsible probably felt pretty silly afterwards.

Diane L (110)
Tuesday October 25, 2011, 11:33 pm
So, Lori, I cried when I watched "Hachi", and "Lassie", but to say it's "too sad, no matter where it happened", think about what IF this story isn't factual in the first place? Yes, horses starve every day, and I have a rescued TB mare that was close to being one of them, BUT why make up a discussion in Care.2 and start a petition about something with NO facts to back it up? Is there a point to petitioning a judge in Alabama about a horse that starved somewhere else, or at another time? Trust me, this did NOT happen in Oakville, Washington.
