Four months after the Spanish kings elephant hunting trip to botswana was exposed following his knee injury and hospitalisation, the spanish branch of WWF decides to remove not the king but the title "Honorary President" which he had, from their statutes...

It is left to each and everyone to question this decision rather than the stepping down of the king. The role of the Monarchy in general seems rather vague compared to the diplomatic role of WWF on the international scene. This gesture conceals the participation of monarchy and other high ranking spenders in the desecration of nature and biodiversity through their endorsement of wildlife trade, hunting and bloodsports. Anything but classy, civilised and well educated.

Thank you, Simone! This is so horrific and shocking. Yet reading Xil L.'s comment above I can say that I agree with that well-stated assessment. And I lived in Spain under the dictatorship of Franco dring its final years and remember Juan Carlos de Borbon being invited back into the country to take on his role as monarch.

What about Philip of Edinburgh (Queen Elizabeth's husband) and Prince Charles? They are also notorious hunters and honorary members of WWF. Have they been sacked too? That's the reason why I have never believed in the good faith of WWF.

If he kills elephant he probably doesn't care that much. The man is an idiot though if this is the kind of entertainment he enjoys and that's putting it nicely.

Good news. If he enjoys killing elephants, he should certainly not be the honorary president of WWF. But he's not the only one who should be excluded. Meanwhile, the elephant he's killed is still dead.

It took them FOUR months to get hip ?

With all the economically outraged 'indignados' in Spain, it's amazing that they haven't called for his removal, or forced him to abdicate. The English monarchy costs the country a fortune, must be the same for poor Spain.

TY, Simone.

"Kings are not born they are made through pain and suffering, that is a real King"
Quote: Philip of Macedonia to his son Alexander the Great!

If this guy would have been a REAL king he would NOT have gone Elephant hunting!

Bullfighting, abandoning or killing hunting dogs, a king that gets pleasure out of killing elephants! Spanish people, what century are you living in?

How in the world anyone could get pleasure from ending a magnificent elephant's life by pulling a trigger, sending a lethal bullet ripping through the poor thing's flesh, delivering pain and agony in the process.... how anyone like that should be the "KING" of ANYTHING is utterly beyond me.

Glad to read it. Now, I say continue the bad press by exploiting bull fighting in Spain. The monarchy is at a weak point, go for the jugular.
