They were crammed into tiny, stinking pens with barely room to move. Eighty-four horses, ponies and donkeys were standing on the rotting remains and skeletons of animals which had starved to death. And the reason for their suffering? A farmer who

Thank you Simone. I would sincerely appreciate any updates you find in the future.

For some sad reason such shit happens from time to time, where farmers become psycologically unstable, depressed or whatever resulting in animals not being fed - and it really makes no sense, since the farmer will hardly make any money on letting his stock starve. I am not sure what you wan't to achieve by punishing mentally ill people severly for the actions (or inaction) caused by their condition.

As for eating horsemeat, why should that be regarded any differntly than eating pigs or cows ?
Calling it decadent to eat horses is cultural bigotry.

I cannot grasp why anyone would refuse to eat meat, but I don't go around telling others they are evil for refusing it.

as long as people eat animals, this is going to happen, people will always be looking for cheap ways to turn a profit.................

People should be made to see exactly what happens to these animals before being allowed to buy animal products! This monster should be forced to endure everything that those sweet innocent horses suffered and endured!
Noted through tears.

What does this have to do with turning a profit ?

Anybody please explain just how a farmer will profit from starving his stock.

Perhaps this case isn't such a case, but the cases here where farmers stop feeding the animals it often happens because the farmer suffers from clinical depression, which is a severe disabilitating mental disorder. In such cases the farmer isn't evil, but sick - there have been cases where there was plenty of feed on the farm, but the farmer simply wasn't mentally capable of getting out and feeding the animals.

On a postive note within 24 hours of the news of this breaking the Rewings horse and donkey rescue centre received 14000 in donations according to the local TV news. There are more good people about than bad.

That's a light sentence. It should be much longer and he should lose his land.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will allow their animals to suffer so much unneccesary pain. Even in the midst of depression, compassion still exists if the person places more than a monetary value on the animal. I think it is that they see them as mearly a possession, and never appreciate them as unique living creatures. It is their loss that they can't experience the full sybiotic nature of a human-animal interaction.

The price we pay for freedom is eteranal vigilance - we can never trust government to protect animals, it is our repsonsibility.

It is clear we eat too much meat! I find it sad millions of people overweight and dying from excess meat. My goal is to eat less than six pounds a year.

You know if you live in this world today, you see all kinds of evil and each time your heart and soul hurts a little more---this story brings me to tears---I just wish I could go and sit among them and hold them and tell them that not all of us are evil--and you have to be evil to do this. It never ceases to amaze me that the very same people who own the farms that should be taking care of all of their livestock, are the very same people that abuse and mistreat them as well..My question is why have a farm if your not really a caring loving, person who loves animals for the real reasons and take care of them as they should be, why have a farm at all then?...Find another job, or work as a janitor in a school, street sweeper, garbage man, waitress, so many other jobs out there, instead of using these animals for a money income!...they are just so innocent and cannot speak for themselves, that is the reason why we have people here like us to be their voices of justice for all of them!...I would never ever hurt or abuse an animal in any way shape or form, I just don't know where their brains are!...and if they are mentally disturbed or can't take care of these animals, then let someone know, get help for themselves and maybe call the authorities, or a sanctuary or someone that could help the problem before it ever gets this bad, as to have skeletons and rotting remains hanging about! That is absurd!...Don't let this happen to any animal! No Animal deserves starvation (just like people)...or to be treated so inhumanely as to die for it!..Dang, this pisses me off!...The owners so better be held accountable for all of their actions, no matter what! Especially if they are mentally incompetent..then they should not even own the farms....They got themselves into this, and pulled all those innocent animals along down with them!...They should be ashamed of themselves, I don't call these people human, to me, they are anything but...maybe sub-human...I hope they get the maximum for murder and abuse! I don't feel sorry for them, they let this get out of control...and I am not accepting the mental thing, got it!...JAIL TIME FOR ALL ABUSERS AND MURDERERS!!! thank you Simone, for shedding some light on this subject for all of us..noted with sadness...maybe we can save others by your article..

What a disgusting story I hope to God this piece of S.............. cops the full brunt of the law and goes to jail for a long long time. It seems that people seem to forget animals have feelings and they feel pain.
This sod needs to feel pain big big time jail for a good 25 years or more. I find it such a sad story for the pain and suffering these magnificent animals had to go through hope good homes have now been sought and they have some happiness now.
