In last night, Barack Obama was the clear winner. He demonstrated that he has both a command of world affairs and a plan for the US within the community of nations. Willard Romney, on the other hand, demonstrated that he has neither. He was not comfortable in his own skin, as he parroted the same talking points over and over. He not only switched positions on most foreign policy issues, but he also disavowed ever having held the opposite view, prompting me to coin the term Mittzophrenia. In case you missed it, here is complete debate video.

As I mentioned on another thread, if imitation truly is the sincerest form of flattery, than Mitt actually endorsed President Obama last night because he parroted his foreign policy of the last four years and called it his plan. His often touted and very sketchy five-point plan is little more than a house of cards, and he thinks he can make it viable by repeatedly saying so because, after all, he is "Mitt" and always gets what he wants. I hope his luck runs out on November 6th.

Thanks for the great analysis, Tom! Super post!

Funny Suzanne, an analyst said the same thing.
Of course he would never consciously endorse Obama.
I thought it was funny when the moderater almost said
Obama bin laden, but caught it and said Obama's bin laden.A strange debate.Mittens is so unpredictable.
Even the President called his lies; Whoppers.
Thanks Tomcat

It's amazing how many positions one man can hold during a campaign. Romney is sure the winner on that, but nothing else. In this debate about foreign policy he had absolutely nothing to offer and ended up resorting to talking about his "5 point plan" for supposed domestic economic recovery. I thought that at least at this debate we would not be subject to that piece of fiction again.

I thought the same as soon as the debate ended Susanne R. ..and that others have commented above.

I actually thought that Romney looked very Vice Presidental....as one for the Obama administration. Bummer for him that the VP position is already filled...There is much about reality that Mitt just doesn't seem to know or be in touch with,other than the things he agrees with about the Obama Presidency, isn't there ?

Ditto to Susanne. Romney was Parrot-phrasing Obama's policies. To be kind...maybe it's early onset of Old-timers disease. His thinking does belong in another century, his attitudes belong in a cage.
Finally, a debate with some very well deserved ZINGERS!

VOTE ---- Obama/Biden --- 2012

They told Romney he was too manic so he was calmer this time - they told Romney he was too hawkish so he was suddenly the Peace Candidate - he admits he knows little about foreign policy so he just agreed with the president a lot. As usual, he had little of value to say. If I had to trust one with my life - and don't we all? - I'd choose Obama

I love the new word "Mittzophrenia." Wonder if it will become a new category for Disability now that the TeaBaggers have all come down with it?

Mitt the Great Panderer and Plagiarizer, simply copied everything the President said and regurgitated it as his own. He has no shame and no original ideas. What an UTTER FRAUD!!!

Tom, I thought he won, too, but according to all the news today, it was close, and the president was snarky. I disagree with them, of course.

A good debate with Mr Obama clearly the winner. I certainly did not find Mr Obama 'snarky' but I did find that he was no longer willing to acceptRomney's lies and deceptions, and he openly challenged him on them. Further I felt that Romney tried to divert from the question and there was more comment on domestic economics than there should have been — some is good as it is germane to to a strong foreign policy, but it strayed too far into it. Romney deserves a fistful of pinocchios for his performance.

Until now, Romney has soundly criticised Mr Obama's foreign relations accumen. But that seemed to change on Monday night with Romney more often than not expressing the same policy. So from that, I can only conclude that:
1) Romney is too stupid and has no foreign relations policy of his own so he copied Mr Obama's;
2) Romney previously lied about Mr Obama's foreign policy accumen;
3) Romney is saying that he too has no foreign policy accumen; and
4) all of the above!

Romney repeatedly parroted the phrase that we “need to help countries reject extremism on their own.” — This is a contradiction — by the US helping other countries, these countries are not rejecting extremism on their own!

Romney said that the US needs to help to end extremism in the Middle East — but what about Christian extremism at home?

Romney made a comment about democratic reforms in various countries, yet he represents a party that is actively involved in voter suppression and election fraud at home. What will he do to end this abomination, this trampling of the rights of American citizens?

IMO, before the US can fairly demonstrate a strong force for democracy in the world, it must fix problems on the homefront.

Get out the vote!!!!!

Vote Democratic 2012!!!!! Vote Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!

Stars to Yvonne and Arielle and Robert and Lyn and TomCat - thanks for this TC and the excellent analysis. Sorry Susanne - the computer won't let me give you another star yet (and others too). Brilliant comments that I completely agree with and could never equal!

I love the term Mittzophrenia TomCat! I was just commenting to a friend across the world who doesn't know much of Rmoney - well, I should say 'didn't know much' - a compressed page of Mittens misdeeds and incessant lies flew her way to enlighten her - and I referred her to your site on Care2 if she wanted a more detailed account of his actions. God preserve the world from this simply appalling man ever becoming President of the United States!

Romney has two things against him. He doesn't know what he's doing. That's one. And he's a good actor. That's two.
