At times online friends and I write on the same subjects at the same time, and when that happens, I’m pleased. This is a team effort, not a competition. Sometimes we even draw from the same sources. I often humorously quip, “Great minds fall in the same ditch!” But now, we have a case where great minds have written an article together, and these great minds are Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). This is what happens when giants meet!

Q Can the brave Bernie Sanders and excellent Elizabeth Warren save the world? Perhaps they can – if we can muster enough help!

Opinions like Bernie 's have kept me in Vermont much longer than I ever expected.
So many liberal lawmakers.
Alas, this is my last week here after 20 years.
YOU GO GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE.
if only the others would follow suit.
Even California could learn a few things.
Unfortunately they have all those repukelicans in Orange county.
Thanks TC

Sanders and Warren are among the few who know strengthening the middle class would improve our economy. Getting the financial institutions to let loose with some of the profit they continue to sit on, paying the CEO's massive salaries on the bail outs they received and continuing to let them run the show is not working for the middle class. Wish Sanders would run for President, I can dream of a Sander/Warren ticket...

I would rather they ask "will you break up too big to fail ..." instead of asking "will you work to break up ..." because anyone can say "I am working on that" but then nothing ever goes further. The banks are definitely killing us. They won't loan on anything but credit cards because interest rates on mortgages and small business loans are too low. And credit cards are at an interest rate unheard of even just 12 years ago. It is definitely a step in the right direction and these two are the best we have to go after this issue. I hope they don't get tired of fighting. We need more like them. This is good news. Thanks

I'm glad to see their Number 1 question was JOBS! "Question 1: Do you believe that the Fed’s top priority should be to fulfill its full employment mandate?" Without Enough Good Jobs, nothing else can be helped.

xcellent article. Based on past actions, Geitner and Summers don't have the balls nor the intelligence to do what is necessary to move forward.

1 Significantly reduce unemployment which will boost the economy because people will have money to spend.

2 TBTF? — I say, TBNTF (too big not to fail). 30% larger with inadequate regulation, limited oversight and still making risky moves. Sad when greedy banksters can put the entire country, indeed global markets, in the toilet!

3 Wall St has shown that it cannot be trusted — get Glass-Steagall back in place as well as other suitable regulation and oversight.

4 Don't allow excess reserves to sit idly by. Stipulate rules regarding excess reserves and make them work.

It would be interesting to hear Janet Yellen's responses. Summers and Geitner are more likely to try and dazzle the Senate confirmation committee with fancy footwork and bullshit.

The Fed should be abolished, and all associated should be locked up forever!

Carlene, it is not that they know that, they "know," the Repugs may even "know," but the Repugs don't give a damn.
On PBS, they recently re-ran the Moyers and Company segment in which Bill Moyers interviews Rrichard wolff, the economist who wrote "Capitalism Hits the Fan." GO FIND IT!

Not just Carlene, but everybody: read the book and/or see the interview with Richard Wolff!

Each of these two has marvelous achievements to their names individually. When collaborative efforts take place there is usually a synergy that creates more than the sum of the parts so this duo is one we can have more reason to expect marvelous results from that most other duos one can imagine.

"Each of us is put here in this time and this place to personally decide the future of humankind. Did you think the Creator would create unnecessary people in a time of such terrible danger? Know that you yourself are essential to this World."
Chief Arvol Looking Horse
19th Generation Keeper of the
Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe

I do hope that Chief Looking Horse is correct and that these two among others are in the right positions to do something that is going to save not only our individual selves but our Earth and all our very survival upon it.

I agree Robert, I'd like for the Fed to be abolished. It is a Private Bank and should not be in control of our lives and monies. The Government, which is The People, should be in control of the money.

"Give me control of a nation's money supply, and I care not who make its laws"

Brilliant article and two brilliant Senators. If only we had more with the intellect to understand correctly and analyze complex issues so clearly as these two because although the idea of citizen legislator had relevance when our country was formed and still does to an extent in the states, at the federal level, leaders must be able to understand incredibly complex issues and elucidate answers and then legislation that protects and serves the entire country not just 1% of it. I don't think there is a tea party politician with half the ability of these two in either House. Which is really too bad because there are many serious issues this Congress should be dealing with rather than playing ideological war games with each other and the President. Michael Douglas said it very well in the movie, The American President, when he said we have serious issues to address and we need serious people to do so. I think the tea party's 15 minutes is over and the next two elections will demonstrate that. Because we DO have a multitude of serious issues to resolve and the caliber of politician, far too many, in the Congress now is not sufficient to do so. Compromise is NOT a four letter word and I wish the gop would figure that out and get serious about dealing with the issues they face and those coming at us fast but not yet being dealt with other than in terms of denial. Sometimes you just want to grab them by the back of the neck and give them a good shake and say, DO the work you were elected to do and stop playing political games with the future of this great country.
