They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Barack Obamas State of the Union Address may be summed up by comparing the expressions on two faces, above: Vice President Joe Biden and Speaker John Agent Orange Boehner (R-OH). Here is the complete video, a link to the transcript, the video of the official Republican Response, and my own editorial commentary.

Our elected President gave an excellent State Of The Union speech. He was correct on all of his points, but as usual, Boehner and some of his cohorts acted in the usual and predictable unyeilding, jackass manner. Followed by "pig nuts" Ernst and her standard twisted rebuttal.

What really struck me as funny was that Boehner failed to do something that the idiot Teabaggers jumped on Obama about with rants of being "unamerican". Yet not a peep about Boehner doing the same thing.

Any guesses as to what it was?

He wasn't wearing his "patriotic" flag pin. :)

"In the aftermath, Republicans are claiming that Obama offered nothing with which they are willing to agree. That is probably true, because he did not offer unconditional surrender."

He IS the last man standing between the American people and a for real oligarchy entrenched into our laws and legal precedents. He has vetoed fewer bills than any other president at this point in his tenure, I suspect he will outdo the first 6 year, and maybe some other Presidents completely in the next two years. I still believe that the republican party will be riding high on their wave of horror for the full two years. I don't think they will notice, or care, as their approval ratings plummet with each new regressive offering they make. Their sit down and shut up everyone and let us make the rich richer is not going to fly, but they don't notice and they don't care and by the time they start backpedaling when they have one man (it will surely BE a man) for President after their convention, it will be too little, too late. And THIS time I hope people, READ that convention's platform as the candidate will spend the fall running away from it as did Mittens last election. But the truth of what they want and intend is in that document as it was in 2012. I thought the President did as well as he could, I think he drew clear lines and I think the republican will continue their lemming march over the cliff as always. Or so I hope.

Great speech, terrific delivery from the Man. Agent Orange as always looked as if he was pickled in sauerkraut and I was kind to myself by not watching the rebuttal - we already know what the Repugs would say anyway. Ratings going up for this president as they well should.

I saw the STOU and I thought it was one of the frist STOU where there was no talk about getting into or trying to start another war.(after all if standing up there (when your biggest plantform to the world) and say Issis is bigger than or we need to be more afraid and we have can't get some kind of control of is like saying we as Americans enjoy war. Is just plain nuts. We have to start trying to fine the hidden "pea" to the road of "Peace". Or we will always sort to "War" and nothing more. Obama came into office and the world back in 2004 as the keynote address speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. In 2008 he was trying to show in order to serve the American people we can do a better job if we just work together. But as we all know once you get elected there is more to gain if you keep the "divided government" going with greed, lies and the like. And thr American people become pawns. Trying something different like respect, honesty and doing right for the American people is hard. So Obama may have talked about about what he wanted for the American people and who he is but sometimes I think we forget and the republian/tea party would not unterstand and will never try. So the 2014 elections was a wake up call for alot of us and Obama.( the party had the best chance it had had in yrs to show what we stood for. But we all know how that turn out.

Joni Ernst talk about her how she coverd her shoes with pactic bags when it rained and how the keystone pipline is money in there pockets and how once again how they can trick the American people.

What a great SOTU.!! Obama is the MAN, loved his delivery, I was cheering him on! Boehner looked like he was ready for a nap.

I watched the speech and was DISGUSTED by the response of Republicans who were ALLEGEDLY elected to serve the nation.

I could cheerfully have SLAPPED every one of those rude, unprofessional, uncooperative ASSES!

I don't think I'm a cynic - a skeptic, yes, but not a cynic - but I do think some parts of the speech were pure fantasy. Of course what the Republicans said was all fantasy. And I do worry about us when our leaders live in a fantasy world.

The TTP/TTIP is a disaster for all workers and small companies – it means that everyone in the world will work for the lowest rate in the world regardless of cost of living where they live, health and safety considerations will go out of the window, the planet can be poisoned by companies with impunity, and companies can sue nations that have the nerve to try and protect their citizens from what a company wanted to do – they can sue them for loss of projected earnings and they are starting to do so in Egypt, in Canada and various places around the world.

I'm sorry TC, but there is no way President Obama has put in safeguards to protect people from that – the whole point of the multinationals promoting and pressuring for the TTP/TTIP to go ahead is to crush these safeguards that our nations have over the years developed to protect their citizens – no more minimum wage, no more health and safety to protect workers from unsafe practices…

It also means that our elected representatives will have been like turkeys voting for Christmas as they will have no power left at all – except possibly re the election of the local dog catcher.

For further details see the net – and this site is very good

halfway down the page is a section entitled 'Everyone wins under free trade' and it shows what some countries have done in recent decades – some signed 'free trade agreements' like the USA with NAFTA – which lost a million jobs, and some were told that they couldn't exist without those agreements and flourished despite ignoring that advice….

I thought it was a great address! Watching Boehner and the other Republicans made me angry . At least show some respect! Like Obama said he did win both times. Loved that moment.
I cannot watch Joni again. There's something a bit creepy about her. I can't quite figure it out but she scares me.

Late breaking from email:

John Boehner's official Youtube channel just posted a video of President Obama's 2015 State of the Union address with key facts about climate change edited out.

You heard us right. The video, which contains official Republican rebuttals to President Obama's oratory, has been doctored to make the President seem less credible. Gone are Obama's statements on NASA and NOAA research that has found that climate change will cause "rising oceans, longer, hotter heat waves [and] dangerous droughts and floods". Also deleted? Obama's important statements saying he opposes torture and Anti-Semitism.

Good SOTU speech bet even better was his retort (aka pimp slap) to the sarcastic clapping from the Red Section of the chamber----I am not campaigning anymore -- applause -- I know, because I won both times ----- BOOYAH!!!

I actually stood up and did a standing version of my chair dance. I LOVED it. I was like Ooooooooooh, yessssssss, slap that bunch of FFBB's down HARD, Mr. Prez. And do it...again and again and again.

I think he is tired of the game and of them. He looks it. Michelle too. Our most classiest First Lady ever. She is damn sure tired of it and them. I wish she'd let loose on them but that would probably get the SWAT teams called to the WH and we all know how that would go down....

But, like I said earlier, Cat Man, even though he stated FACTS.....and what needs to happen, we know it won't and the Reds have already said it won't...hence...more of the same--gridlock.

The disrespect and do-nothing attitude of the GOP is not lost on young people who are quickly becoming the largest body of voters, as well as asians, hispanics and blacks.
As these old, decrepit, right-cronies die out, times will change. I loved the bitch-slap administered to them by our fantastic POTUS!

As for Koch whore,Joni, her speech was RIDICULOUS - walking around with bread bags on your feet. BS! What is she - 90 yrs old? The GOP hasn't learned yet NOT to let idiots deliver the post speech! Oh yeah - there aren't any non-idiots in the GOP!

Taxing the billionaires & Big Corporations to help out the (remaining) Middle Class is great - if it happens. I believe the economy is getting better, but it's all top heavy - going to the top 1% & we're drowning in oil spills & greasy (TeaParty) mob hits..2 years of "free" college is nice too, but my family has already paid that price over 10 years ago (and RECENTLY got out from under it!), what have you done for me lately, Pres. Obama? I'm severely aggravated that the One thing you've used your strong-arm for is to get Democrats on board the run-away TTP deal! :( *sigh*..but I hope he Does Veto all RepubliCON vengence bills & REALLY gets us some help with middle class tax breaks & JOBS Bills!

If you look real close at the pin Joni Ernst has on, you will see it's the logo of the American's For Prosperity. She has no flag pin on but flaunts the fact that she's bought and paid for by the Koch's.

Lowest viewer rating in 15 years!

President Barack Obama‘s 2015 State of the Union address drew the lowest television viewership for any such speech in the last 15 years, according to new data from Nielsen.

The president’s Tuesday address was watched by 31.7 million viewers across 12 broadcast and cable networks that carried the speech live, despite a two-week campaign style tour and a social media blitz to drum up interest.

That’s down from the 33.3 million viewers who tuned in to Mr. Obama’s State of the Union address last year, and the 52.4 million who watched him deliver a 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress early on in his presidency.

And it’s the second-smallest State of the Union audience since Nielsen started collecting the data in 1993. Only Bill Clinton‘s 2000 speech drew a smaller television audience than Mr. Obama’s this year, with about 31.5 million views.

Nielsen’s numbers do not count the online audience, which did not exist in previous years. The White House made an aggressive push this year to promote its own online offering, which contained charts and graphs in addition to a live feed of the speech. All told, the White House reported more than 1.2 million online views of the speech.

In addition, a number of websites and media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, offered their own streams of the speech—increasing the total number of viewers well beyond the television audience.

But the lower audience share is part of a broader decline in interest in the speech.

Public interest tends to wane as a presidential administration ages, and there has been a general overall decline in interest in the speech as administrations have to compete against thousands of cable channels, Netflix, smartphones and other forms of entertainment.

Obama is irrelevant today. His own democrats have turned against him. Many couldn't stomach watching another Obama "it's all about me" speech. Obama seems to carry a large chip on his shoulder...which I call "narcissistic euphoria." He remains a legend in his own mind.

Sharon H (282)
Thursday January 22, 2015, 4:44 pm
So? The TV wasn't the only place you could watch it. It was also on some of the network sites online. Besides, it probably wasn't watched by the hating teabaggers as they would allow FOX to tell them what they thought of the speech and parrot what they said.
If the Neilson ratings are the only thing you have here, you're pathetically grasping at straws.

Oh, Diane, Diane, Diane. You try so hard and fail so completely.

You must have missed the CNN exit poll story that reported the SOTU address was more popular this year than last, with an initial 51% positive rating. 72% of polled viewers said they thought Obama's policy proposals would move the country in the right direction, up from 60% last year.

It actually seems that the stronger a stand Obama takes against the Teapublicans, the more America supports him. So stop trying to project your own egomania on the guy.

As for Jodi Ernst's story about wearing bread bags over her shoes... I strongly suspect she heard that one from her grandmother. I heard it from mine. People did that during the Great Depression, NOT during the late '50s and 1960s when Jodi was growing up. I won't be surprised if her next big memory involves that hard winter the family spent in a log cabin with only three sides.

Marianne C (168)

P.S. to Sharon H:

You're right about the pin on Jodi Ernst's lapel. She was an Americans for Prosperity/tea bagger darling, and makes no attempt to hide the connection. She acts like she's proud of being bought into office as a shill.

"Lowest viewer rating in 15 years"...on TV BUT this does not count ONLINE and PHONES! Hello! This IS 2015!!! The haters will reach for ANYTHING-pathetic!
The speech was a HUGE success because MOST Americans could and do relate to what The President said!

Sharon and Marianne (others too-green stars)-thank you for posting TRUE, HONEST, and FACTUAL comments! The baggers ONLY know HATE...they cannot tolerate FACTS.
President Obama has done SO much for the poor and the middle class...the economy is MUCH better...NOW the rePUKEliCONS are trying to take credit and THEY DID NOT DO A DAMN THING BUT SAY NO. NO. and NO!!!!!!!
Facts are FACTS.

I very much enjoyed his SOTU speech, but know that very little of what he proposed will get passed. I wish he had acted this way sooner. McTurtle and Boehner will be on CBS Sunday night, saw a brief commercial in which they told Scott Pelley that we "can't afford free tuition". We can, however, afford war after war after war.

Loved the SOTU. But most, if not all, of his policy ideas will be treated like they have been all through his presidency, like radioactive waste! Just so much more for the repukkklicans to shove around and then take credit for it when it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
Such disrespect warrants disrespect to them! And that goes for "pig nuts" Ernst, too!

Obama gave an excellent SOTU speech last night. The split screen was awesome, giving more information with graphs, charts, photos and words. Taking out terrorists was one time Boehner stood up and clapped. Maybe he did not realize that he is part of the "terrorists" group (GOP/TP) sitting in Congress during the SOTU speech. lol. Obama is, without a doubt, a superior speaker than the last POTUS (Bush). Obama has a great sense of humor. lol.

I still have very strong doubts about TPP and really need to look at who is drafting this proposal trade agreement. It is not the people but the big corporations, ISIL and other groups like them have yet to be resolved. Congress is a bit "slow" or is the word "low intelligence?".

The low information voters have no idea just how bad the GOP/TP really are. No idea at all. Maybe it is because of low intelligence, low learning curve.

( read Gene's comment above )

John Boehner just sat there looking bored, maybe drunk. lol. Boehner will certainly go down in history as the worst Speaker of the House.

Barf Bag Alert:
Does Joni actually believe the drivel she espouses? Joni is parroting the same lines, lies which the GOP/TP people have been saying for years. She went on and on about her personal life all the while offering nothing new. Yep, yep, Joni is a bought and paid for by the Koch Bros. a pet bitch. lol.

Cruz, Paul deleted their rebuttals. Rubio in spanish? Clawson as a Tea Party Express was a waste of time, puffy.

The GOP/TP will spin stories and lies as to why Obama did not do what they wanted him to do for the next two years.

The "troll" is here, once again, spouting the usual drivel. Certainly not worthy of reading and wasting my time. Maybe troll is in the same class and vein ass class of Bachmann, Palinsane and now, Joni Pignuts. lol.

I watched the address Tuesday night and it was powerful. Equally as powerful was Boehner's apparent disdain for the whole thing. And of course you could tell where the Republicanus/Teabaggers were sitting . . . they were like stone statues, cold, dour and unmoving. I suppose that is to be expected, but I wish that I had been surprised.

Bernie Sanders was having a fine time.

As to Pig Nuts . . . oh crap! I just lost supper!

I just love how she, and Boehner too since, have vocalised their commitment to the American people . . . the American people who elected them. Not the ones that actually were conned into ticking their ballot beside a Republicanus/Teabagger name, and not the ones who didn't vote at all, but the purse strings like the Kochroaches and the Sheldon Adelsons. I also found that she told some outright lies about the failed ACA being a failure and the cancelled healthcare policies. Strange that she forgot to mention the millions that now have affordable healthcare that had none before because it was out of reach. I noticed that she didn't mention social security, especially since the Republicanus/Teabaggers are committed to destroying it.

I think what really bothers me is that she called on POTUS to start playing ball with them. And how would she describe the past 6 years of Republicanus/Teabagger obstruction?

Isn't it interesting that Pig Nuts' parents and grandparents survived with 'the sweat on their brows' and the 'dirt on their hands' as she tells it! Oh, but wait, she forgot to mention the sudsidies they received . . . the $500,000 in government aid, that had they been operating today, would be zip, nada, zilch under the Republicanus/Teabaggers because they are common folk. Geeze, she is delusional!

@ Robert B --- "He wasn't wearing his "patriotic" flag pin. :)"

LOL Robert! Could that because he isn't 'patriotic' except to the Kochroaches, and of course a bottle or two of Jamesons?

@ Arielle --- "Agent Orange as always looked as if he was pickled in sauerkraut "

LOL! Not sauerkraut, but Jamesons!

Wow, I just checked Ernst's bio, and she's way younger than I'd thought! She apparently wasn't even BORN until 1970!

So that bread bags on the feet story is even MORE likely from her grandmother's youth, not her own.

Oh, and Diane? Not everybody who watched the SOTU watched in on TV as it was being broadcast. Millions watched it later, and are STILL watching it. But Rush won't report that, so you'll never know.

Marianne C (168)
Friday January 23, 2015, 3:38 am
This interesting viewpoint from Crooks & Liars:

“Joni Ernst told a touching tale of how she only owned one pair of shoes as a child, and how she had to wear bread bags on her feet to keep her shoes dry when it rained.’

“When was that? During the Great Depression? Not so much, since Ernst was born in 1970. No, her time in bread bags was during the Reagan era -- 1980 to 1988. Even allowing for the possibility that there was some flow-through from Carter into the Reagan years, Ernst's tale of "we didn't have much but we didn't need much" falls squarely into Reagan's trickle-down years.’

“Senator Ernst's follow-up statement: "These days though, many families feel like they’re working harder and harder, with less and less to show for it." That just further indicts Republicans and the whole trickle-down theory, given that it's been the operative economic theory for the past 30 years…’

“The only takeaway anyone should remember is Ernst's affirmation that Reagan and his league of conservatives left her with is bread bags on her feet.”

Guess she didn't think about it in THAT light!

Arielle S (313)
Friday January 23, 2015, 6:20 am
Ah, Diane, what is sad is your refusal to admit that Obama can outwit, outsmart and out-politic any of the knuckle draggers that call themselves Republicans. His ratings are going UP.... how disappointing for you.

Thanks for the update Marianne, and TomCat.
Arielle is right, from the last reports, I've been hearing.
Boehner's underhanded, back door tactics, might not end up benefiting him, much, if at all. Another "useful idiot". Too bad, he doesn't care about America and Americans, the way he professes to...
He really should think twice, before he gets enlisted to do someone else's dirty business..

I actually kind of ENJOYED seeing Agent Orange sitting behind the President looking like he'd just bitten into a rotten egg sandwich with sour pickles.

Joe Biden barely being able to suppress a grin was at least completely likable and human. Agent Orange could have sent in a cardboard cut-out to do his part.

Another thing about the bread bag tale, if they were as poor as she says, they would have baked their bread instead of buying it. Most small family farmers did and still do make their own bread.
