Good article, i.e. graphics, TomCat. It can't all be blamed on Republicans, though, we're all responsible to a certain degree. We all should do our bit to limit the damage done right from when our ancestors first started to abuse their brain power and tried to make the only planet we have do our bidding. Each day should be Earth Day, not just one day a year.

Happy Earth Day T.C. And everyone else.
I do agree with Lona though. It's not all Republicans...they aren't helping though.
And yes every day we should be mindful of this wonderful planet and take care of it the very best we can.

Happy Earth Day to one and all. What is a shame though that EVERY day isn't Earth day. We only have one place to call home and if we muck that up, well, there's no place else to go. We are, and have been, horrible stewards of this planet. We run around it as if we were exempt from the laws of physics. I fear it may teach us a terrible lesson in coming centuries. I hope we are wise enough to take our spanking, learn our lesson and help this pale blue dot of an oasis in space become cleaner and healthier than ever. It deserves it. And, so do we. Even more so our grandchildren and their grandchildren who had no part in the mess we've made here. And who may still have to do the heavy lifting when it comes to making the place hospitable once more.

We all have a stake, equally. Because if we do not save the environment and save the Earth, then whatever we do in civil rights or in a war against poverty will be of no meaning, because we will then have the equality of extinction and the brotherhood of the grave.

The graphic are a satire on an old anti-drug campaign. (See it at if you missed it.) It has been much parodied.

Of course Republicans are not the only ones to blame - but the rest of us are trying to work around our daily lives, whereas it is Republicans who have made official policies which are detrimental. I vote the graphics are right on.

It's 59F here now and supposed to be warmer the rest of the week. My thermostat is programmed for 70F indoors this time of the day. I am wearing a sweater which is warm enough to wear without a coat down into the 30Fs, and my hands are cold enough to nurse a sprain. I did check on my irises but will only go out again today to pick up mail

I agree with Lona....

"Having bad guys to blame has a certain convenience. As long as I’m not taking responsibility for the gift of my intelligence and using it as clearly and coherently as I can, I’m kind of aiding and abetting." - John Trudell

We ALL must do our part. Earth Day IS or SHOULD be EVERY DAY.

Happy Earth Day, indeed.
May Gaia reign!
Lona does say the truth. Too bad religion has encouraged the idea that the Earth, and its beings, are ours to use. "Dominion," my ass!

Love the graphics. Happy Earth day to all. I spent the day taking Mom for her pace maker check up. She is in a wheel chair now, so it is quite a challenge. Thanks for all the cards and well wishes for this day we all should acknowledge.

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Last Sunday, members of my church congregation participated in cleaning up local river banks and trails following the service. They had a sandwich or hotdog lunch followed by the donning of rubber boots and a walk down to the cleanup area. It was in the mid 20's C (75-78 F) and sunny so a good day!

@ Mitch D --- Some churches (the more conservative) do follow with "dominion" in the traditional sense of "ours to use as we want". Others, my own for example, believe that humans were given the responsibility to care for the earth and animals, to be stewards. Even in our Creed, there is a line that says "to live with respect to all Creation".

None of us is perfect, but we must all try to live with respect to Gaia.

The GOP hates the earth except for the fact they sell it to the highest bidders.

Thanks all. In no way did I intend to absolve each of us of the responsibility to waste as little as possible and lower our carbon footprints much as possible.

True, every day should be an Earth Day.

Loved the graphics. Joanne D's video was so applicable, right wing corporations would sell the environment to the highest bidder, profits matter more than the survival of the planet.
