I should never have changed the channel. See today’s Open Thread to learn why I wish I’d been wearing George. Clown Car Destruction Derby VII was a debate that reflected the century. Unfortunately, it was the 19th century, and the Republicans reflected only its low points. Unless they are successful at undermining the tattered remains of this Republic, that American apathy has allowed Republicans to shred, and establishing a Republican Reich, in which predetermined elections exist for show only, we may be watching the implosion of the Republican Party.

http://www.alternet.org/5-most-glaring-lies-last-nights-republican-debate
AlterNet compiled what it felt were the five biggest lies in the debate. I'm not surprised you didn't use it, it was so pedestrian (translation: more of the same and not exciting). But I recorded a few of my thoughts -
1. Such a typical Republican lie, it will almost certainly get overlooked.
2. And regardless of how many pages there are, there is not enough regulation of activities that really need it.
3. On a par with Trump's "hundreds of Muslims dancing in the streets." Or was it thousands? Trump may not have been there, but his ideas were represented.
4. I said earlier today about someone else that nothing gives me more respect for a politician or a person than the ability to evaluate evidence and on that basis say, "I was wrong." That will never describe Rubio, or, for that matter, any of today's GOP.
5. What AlterNet calls "a really literal weird sense," slang from years ago used to call a "letter-of-the-law liar." He never asked once, he asked multiple times. She didn't tell him, she drew pictures. And on and on. If you can think up the way to word it, you can essentially say "literally" anything.

Watched part of the derby, but couldn't stomach watching the rest of it.

''Bernie cannot be bought!!'' Great quote!

Awww...Great video! Go Bernie!! Loved seeing Ms. Serandon there introducing Bernie too.

Thanks, TC.

I get the impression that without the Trump it would have been a slightly more civilized affair, instead I was just waiting for them to find the shrinky self destruct button. If this is the sort of people who think they can lead the world's largest economy then the US is really knackered with a capital F. As for Trump he is becoming more like a cartoon villain by the day, his unruly hair and his habit of speaking about himself in the 3rd person I suspect he is really a Pokemon and it will be only a matter of time before he gets a bitch slapped by Team Rocket.

"I would include a complete list of lies told but I do not have the Craig super-computer needed to format a collection that asymptotically approaches infinity in length." Tom, are you channeling Borowitz? What a funny, marvelous, way to put it!
I just finished posting the DK story to which JL refers, on C2, at the politics thread.

Demolition Derby is a great descriptor of the sadness that was shown......only thing that sickened me more was the NPR interviews with repuglicon interview from Iowa in which they in they interviewed families who are one issue candidates....that issue being guns

PS -- love Bernie, but please no Susan Sarandon

If ANY of these Rethugs get squeezed into the Presidency, then you might as well pack your bags and take your family and HEAD FOR THE HILLS with the Survivalists, the Preppers - hope you've been following their websites!
The Democratic National Committee has MADE IT PLAIN, that they would RATHER A RETHUGLICAN GET ELECTED, than Bernie!!!
So, it could WELL HAPPEN.
Trouble is, EVEN THE PREPPERS AND SURVIVALISTS won't make it IN THE LONG RUN... in the SHORT run, for a WHILE, maybe, but NOT IN THE LONG STRETCH OF TIME. Like years and decades and on to the next generations. The Preppers are just prepared for a "temporary breakdown" and then a return to the Status quo ante. As far as I can tell.
The WEALTHY 1% are deliberately [and with Malice aforethought] GATHERING ALL THE WORLD'S RESOURCES into their clammy selfish HANDS. As far as POLLUTING THE REST OF THE WORLD, to the point of UN-INHABITABILITY, well too bad. They need their MINES, all the world's total RESOURCES, their Radioactive Uranium, their gas & oil from FRACKING... what they DON'T need, is extra people.
We can bloodily and fiercely fight it out over what's LEFT OVER, outside of the heavily-guarded WALLED COMPOUNDS where the 1% live on.... The Preppers will just be better equipped to last a bit longer, but THEIR Water, Air and Soil will quickly be UTTERLY POLLUTED AND CONTAMINATED AND POISONED too....
This is the EXACT PATTERN that I see DEVELOPING.....
Nope, NOT SATIRE..... not Sci-fi, either, but THE TRUTH....
It's BERNIE'S REVOLUTION - or SOME sort of Revolution! - OR DEATH TO YOUR CHILDREN - just like in Flint, Michigan..... Or New Orleans during Katrina.....

Love your lists of positive things about the Republican rally, TomCat. They are just as empty as the candidates heads. There simply isn't a good choice on the Republican side, the only question is if their base will go for entertainment or pseudo-Christian misanthropy. On Democratic side there is a better choice: Go Bernie, GO!
