Monologue - And the rich doing the cheating think they are not hurting anyone. And those who know better are thinking, rightly, of the students who did deserve to get admitted and get the education, but didn't. And of course, they are hurt the most, and next comes society, which loses the power of their contributions. But they also are hurting everyone who ever DID get in to these schools honestly, and graduated honestly. (which makes me personally involved.) So I'll shut up now.

Andrew Gillum - "I wouldn't underestimate what was done" - that's for sure. The way the GOP cheats, and especially in the states in question, losses as close as Andrew's and Stacey's, and Beto's ARE wins. And, using Beto for an example, I said to someone who was doubting whether he could beat Trump since he couldn't beat Cruz, "In the general election, not all the voters will be Texans," pace Pat B, and all the other good people there. BTW, Andrew is incredibly poised for someone whose father died a week ago.

New Rules - Yes, well, there are arguments both ways.

RESIST AND PERSIST !!!

1. One of the UT Tennis coaches got fired immediately after this news came out. Crazy!

2. I wish all the Best for Mr. Gillum! He's got my vote!!!

3. Imminent disaster, imho. The thing I see, is the 'if' we did, Faux would twist it around to suit their purpose, and lie continuously day after day about what the subject is, and who said what and misconstrue words. (and make themselves look good)....to their base. I agree w/you, Tom.

I think Bill, and a lot of other people, are getting the label wrong. They, as well as the republicans, keep saying socialism, no one is advocating, as Andrew Gillum pointed out, for the government to take over the means of production and become the de facto owner of the means of production. That's really more communism than socialism, to me. What people, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are saying is that they are Democratic Socialists. That's a far different thing, modeled on the Scandinavian systems perhaps, but it really means only that on larger issues, like national health care, retirement security, human issues, that life is better for all of us if all of us pitch in to take care of all of us.

That's a progressive position. It's my position. It's still capitalism (which I'm not nearly as fond of as I was before the rules changed with Reagan and the difference between CEO went from making 30 times their lowest paid worker to 400 times, or more) but with some modifications on social issues that affect the health and welfare of all of us from childhood to death. Alexandria is the only one pushing back on that labeling but she's the favorite demon of the right these days and even her voice is not being heard. Democratic Socialists are the future of America. I don't think there's any way we survive the current system otherwise.

I also think Andrew Gillum is a brilliant young man, this was my first up close and personal with him and I'm very impressed. The youthful leadership in this nation is magnificent, the future is bright for liberals. What I see on the right is not brilliance but a historical recession, no one under 35 is buying that. And that's the demographic that is going to live out this century. We're in good hands.

Gene that is the dictionary definition. A democratic socialist is one that believes in social democracy.

I understand that may be the dictionary definition, TC, but no one is talking about confiscating the means of production. What I've seen, so far, are simply social programs which we've had since, at least, Social Security began. I don't want to go back to the 90% tax rate either. But I think 70% on everything above 10 million, even if that is a net figure, not gross, is okay. That still leaves the wealthy with $300,000 on every million they make over ten. Which is still more than the average salary of at least 95%, and probably higher, of the population. It seems right to me, fair, and in the best interest of the entire nation not just a tiny fraction of it. I also want, very much, corporations (especially since they are people too!) to pay their fair share, the elimination of offshore accounting, tax dodges of all kinds. We're all in this together and it's time we started acting like it. :^)

Gene--it's the same old ''socialism is COMMUNISM" nonsense and they're smearing it everywhere in hopes of combating the rise in DEMOCRATIC socialism. They're appealing to the uneducated. Sadly, I'm beginning to realize how many of them there are!

I loved Bill's LAST ''new rule'' He says the Democrats have got to stop making it easy for the GOP to throw dirt at us...that we should allow FAUX to air our primary debates. I think it'd be difficult to listen to them pontificate/insult/etc....but we have every right to air our debates and--who knows--we might actually EDUCATE someone!
