If I wake up in the middle of a political wet dream, and I am ripped from sleep by members of my own party drenching my naked body with ice water, I can tell that I am a Democrat. In 2008, there was a struggle between Clinton and Obama. Almost 5% of Democrats, angry that Clinton lost, voted for McCain. In 2016, angry that Bernie lost, over 10% of Bernie supporters voted for Trump. Are we starting for 2020 already? Democrats, knock it off!

Well, this is discouraging. Of course you are correct - I just said the same thing in the Open Thread before I had read this article. Unfortunaltely, I am the only person I can force to be courteous. Although I can certainly advise (and there are others doing so.) Just between us, I am very tired of fearing for my country.

Good point, and well taken, Tom.
We need to make a united front, with no malice, otherwise we'll be left behind...imo. We can't afford to not win, no matter who, and yes!, by all means support the democratic nominee and have his or her back. ALL the way, to the WH.

Can someone explain to me why the phrase "Bernie isn't a democrat" makes any difference to - anything? They seem more than happy that he caucuses with him... Is it just me being obtuse?

we are.....there are too many who become cult followers.....Its Bernie or no one....Its Hillary or no one....its Mayor Pete or no one...its Dem X or no one........I am very worried about this again.....and yes, sadly it is already starting...doing the repuglicons job for them.....

Honestly, I love so many and I will vote for whomever gets out of the primary......any of them are better than drumpf or weld or pence or any repuglicon.......

We have to not vote republican no matter who runs.

I am not against Bernie, but I must say many of his followers are only Bernie-crats and not true Democrats.........and sadly in our 21st century need for cult-like leaders I love AOC (she scares the **** out of the GOP and has good policy) but she is developing the same cult-following amongst many......

Be real and realize that Dems are always more people oriented than repugs, but that politicians are supposed to represent all the voters in their district, county, state, country, etc......and so for many they cannot be as liberal/progressive as they would like because they wouldn't win in the area they represent......

let me give you 2 examples......1. Bernie can win in many ways a progressive state, but I cannot see him winning in many others....such as WI, the Dakotas, Montana......Russ Feingold was a great progressive on issues at his time, but he couldn't hold on in WI.......and sadly, I am not sure Bernie could win a state-wide general election in MN where I live.....although maybe......depending on whom he ran aganst....2. I live in a very liberal/progressive district (we had Keith Ellison and now we have Ilhan Omar), but we would vote in pretty much any Democrat......however, our state is usually no more than 5 Dems and 3 Repugs or has been 4:4 or even 3:5........give those who aren't perfect a break and realize the country is very different in different places.

NYT: So, maybe it would behove the mainstream Dems to wise up, and support Bernie, themselves??!! I can’t believe that, well maybe aI can (people of any stripe can be soooo stupid) that 10% of Bernie supporters voted for the Orange POS!
MSNBC: I’m guessing Bernie feels a need to separate himself from the pack, but he starts out that way, from the get-go. “Democrats need to knock it off.”–AMEN!

How can anyone know what % of Bernie supporters voted for trump?

There are corporate centrist democrats & socialist democrats, it's time to know the difference.
Bernie is way ahead in polls, donations & popularity but main stream media is often not reporting this.

Also -
"The matter of What To Do About Bernie and the larger imperative of party unity has, for example, hovered over a series of previously undisclosed Democratic dinners in New York and Washington organized by the longtime party financier Bernard Schwartz. The gatherings have included scores from the moderate or center-left wing of the party, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader; former Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., himself a presidential candidate; and the president of the Center for American Progress (CAP), Neera Tanden."

'They are terrified': Bernie's campaign hits back on anti-Sanders Dems

Bitching between supporters is unavoidable, bitching within the democratic party is crazy & can't end well!!

i'm watching this evolve daily on Twitter!

That picture is all too true. All too often, Democrats are their own worst enemies. Unless they get their doo-doo together, we're going to have four more years of Agent Orange.

It is a fact that the average Democrat is better educated tan its GOP counterpart, so one would expect them to be smarter too. And one would expect the same from Democratic politicians, but if learning from past mistakes is any indication of smartness, they are acting pretty dumb now. Get over your egos, gils and boys – big egos are soooo Republican – and this time do what is in the best interest of the country. So stop qualifying and confusing and annoying your voters and stand behind the person who will take America out of the mess it is in now.

When I was a bank manager, the staff all had sales targets to meet as part of their performance. Sometimes, the competition between individual staff members could be cut-throat. I would tell them that their competition was with other banks, not with each other. For every client brought in through the front door one left through the back door because staff were competing with each other. Stay focused on who the real competition is. This is essentially what happened in 2016 and threatens to happen again.

As you say Puddy Tat, knock it off Democrats!!!

“…when we have a nominee, we ALL need to get behind them with enthusiastic support. “

Resist, Persist, Remove!!!

Lock HIM up!!!

Silence is Consent!!!

This is the absolute worst case scenario for 2020. If trump can't be removed any other way, and that remains to be seen, then the only way to guarantee him a second term is if the DFL repeats its mistakes of the past, particularly 2016. It has to be Vote Blue, No Matter Who. Or the trump train keeps rolling. I don't understand how that can be acceptable to any progressive given what he's done so far, the appointments he's made, the judges, SCOTUS.

There are a lot of candidates, TC is right, support whomever you wish, but don't support anyone whose purpose is division. We have enough of that already. More than enough. That contributed to the loss in 2016, though I still believe that election stolen and do believe the electoral college obsolete, but none of that matters unless we rid this nation of the republican party and we only do that through staying united. Bernie's comments are abhorrent, my way or trump is abhorrent. They're divisive at a time when we need the opposite of that. Why should Democrats be "terrified" of him? How is that helpful? How does that bring us together? What we need more than anything is unity. This is not that. It is headed to a repeat of 2016. We can't do that.

I just read, skimmed because it made me so angry, an article in the local paper where this guy who has some kind of tv show said, I don't watch the news. If my friends get into a political conversation, I say, "Good for you. Good stress on you. None of it is related to me..." People like that are as dangerous. He's 45 years old and doesn't realize that the ONLY reason he is free to have a television show for a JOB is because of political freedom. I almost feel like people like him are the 90 million who did not vote and who should spend their time in a third world nation where they have no opportunity to destroy a democracy. It ALL is related to him. To me, us. If you can't care enough about others to participate in a democracy, perhaps you don't deserve to live in one, and perhaps you won't much longer.

If there is anything a person born in this country owes it, it is caring about its future, its people and its direction. That is all that is between us and true fascism. I've never been more disgusted with Americans than I am today, the republican part I can at least have some respect for, they care about the wrong things but they care. It is those who want their agenda even if it means losing everything and those who can't be bothered to care who will lose everything that I don't think deserve anything. And am afraid they will get exactly that, along with the rest of us. I don't think we've seen anything like this since our founding years as we established who and what we were to be about as a nation. I worry that people now do not see how important those early years of our nation were, nor the danger we face in this time. Including, it seems, some of our potential candidates.

Gene just said it better than I probably would have! Sowing disagreement among Democrats is the ONLY hope the Greedy Old Putz party has left. DO NOT GIVE THEM THE SATISFACTION! Thanks...

Political infighting on the left in Israel caused it to crumble and they’re stuck with Netanyahu. Please, let’s not emulate them.
