Mursi are a nomadic cattle herder ethnic group located in the Debub Omo Zone of Southern Nations, nations, regions and people in Ethiopia, near the Sudanese border.

I saw a report on Ethiopia and this tribe on PBS or the History channel a few years ago.
It stated that the Mursi were still fierce warriors and their ancestors began the practice of disfigurement to make themselves unattractive and undesirable to slave hunters, then it became a normal custom for them.
