The number of wolves that can be killed in 2015-2016 increases by 24-36, while the wolf population is decreasing according to the official monitoring (ONCFS: estimated 301 wolves in 2014, 282 wolves in 2015).

Respect for the animal species, its usefulness in the harmony of nature, and the end of the hunting of wolves

Author: Anne Tanguy

Created on 10.29.2015
Attention: From French Government

As written by Christophe Magdalene in "" the hunting of wolves in France continues in defiance of the law and the opinion of the French.

Thus, the Minister of Ecology has issued two decrees laying down the conditions of shooting and the number of wolves that can be killed for the period 2015-2016. These measures dictated endorse a policy of destruction and hunting by agricultural lobbies. Several associations of animal rights and biodiversity request removal of those arrested and complain against France.

Remember that in France, the wolf (Canis lupus) is officially a strictly protected species. Nevertheless, wolves are still regularly killed on prefectural derogation when they are already victims of poaching and poisoning.

Again, Segolene Royal, the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, which does no honor to his office, took two orders dated June 30, 2015:

- One laying down the conditions and limitations under which derogations from the prohibitions of destruction may be granted by prefects concerning the wolf

- The other fixing the maximum number of wolves specimens whose destruction may be authorized for the period 2015-2016.

These orders go far beyond the "defense" in respect of any wolves around since rôderaient herds can now be slaughtered:

- Although the cattle was not attacked and is not threatened

- Although the cattle is not protected

Until six months after the finding of "substantial and recurring damage from one year to another, on farms that have implemented the defensive shots, and since the herds remain under conditions where they are exposed to wolf predation. "

Worse, the shooting are possible even in the heart of National Parks, while hunting is normally not permitted (except the Cevennes).

On the other hand, farmers continue to be subsidized and compensated without consideration or incentive to protect their flock.

The number of wolves that can be killed in 2015-2016 increases by 24-36, while the wolf population is decreasing according to the official monitoring (ONCFS: estimated 301 wolves in 2014, 282 wolves in 2015).

In addition, these orders were issued after they had been massively rejected by citizens during the public consultation. In fact, nearly 80% of the French reject wolf hunting.

Unfortunately, the Minister of Ecology refuses to receive environmental groups while she receives anti-wolf unions and apply their grievances.

Four wolves were shot in the Alps, the weekend of October 17, 2015, when he no longer herds pasture from October 15 and therefore more risk.

Since 1 July 2015, twelve wolves were killed by hunters.

Let us mobilize to protect the wolves!

Terribly depressed to learn that apparently - legislators are all the same...removing protections for predators, dismissing public opinion, catering to hunters and monetarily rewarding ranchers for an inherently cruel business...

Signed and validated. Thank you Sara.
