The number of women 18 and younger who have had breast enlargements has risen nearly 500 percent over the past decade - a sharper climb than the 300 percent increase in breast augmentations among all age groups.

I'm amashed at the number of parents who let their young daughters risk their lives in order to be popular! Our society truly needs to address our sick fascination with how we look instead of who we are!!

Friday March 28, 2008, 9:34 am depressing.....I agree with you Kathy. I also think so much of it comes from the popularity of so called "reality television." Girls are watching programs like the one staring Hugh Hefner and they think all of this is normal. )-:

Why don't they allow them to be children & give them a chance to grow up.

my stepdaughter told me her Jersey girl friends get "boob jobs" for graduation presents. I wish young girls would see the beauty in their youth, that natural glow that a boy really falls in love with! their is no joy in being a kid anymore, even that has been commercialized.

You know teens getting boob jobs is STUPID! My boobs did not grow in until I was in my tweenties. All these ignorant teens have to do is wait a few years and then they will look more like women!! Parents who let them get boob jobs or even pays for it are ignorant as well. This kind of thing just pisses me off.

First nose jobs for superficial teens, and now breast implants for the insecure. I really feel little for these people except a twinge of pity that they think this will actually "improve" them somehow. It won't. Fake, fake, fake...plastic people with nothing between their ears (oh, but they have big boobs!).

It is normal for kids to want to 'fix' things they see people get teased about, but later they regret it. Girls that are naturally busty early as 12 or 13 get teased also and accused of having something done or being a 'you-know-what' even if they are still virgins. On the flip-side they may ask parents for breast reductions they do not need, that they would also regret later or may thank the parents later that said, 'no' and eassured them instead, knowing that they would grow into some of their features (such as bust size or naturally full lips) as the rest of their bodies grew & the features that are picked on at 12 or 13 can be as source of envy at 20, 30, 40, 50 etc... But what concerns me is that children as young as 10 are being condoned to get bust jobs which is a health hazard and they may be later asking for breast reductions at 25 when their own real bust fills in. I cannot imagine the discomfort of trying to play at 10 with basketball sized silicone or saline boobs in the way of your little frame. But the other real concern is also, why would parents want to sexualize children so young with dangerous bust jobs, except to live vicariously their own sexual desires and lost approval thru them?
And what kind of Doctors would allow this to be done to so small a child?
Many children do not even start puberty till 12 or 13. (Starting a puberty as early as 10 or less, even naturally, leads to more risks of future feminine health problems with menses etc..but even those few that start early naturally do not have a large bust at 10! They have breast buds that will grow with time!) Getting breast buds is an exciting time & parents should reassure & let little girls know it is normal & that blossuming naturally & rejoicing in further changes in stages, is part of the joy of growing up. It is just ridculous to force adulthood on them when they are little more than babies still. Have the parents even considered that this will attract pedophiles, who will blame the parents & say the child lied about their age by having a 38 inch bust at 10?!!! The parents need psych. help that allow this.
