A 15-year-old boy has been hailed as a hero for rescuing a cat stuck up a tree - after firefighters said they would not 'put lives at risk'. 18-month-old cat Diesel had been trapped up the 60ft tall spruce tree in Foulden, Berwickshire for five days.

Noted! And what a bunch of useless wussies for firemen, wonder if the dumbasses know how to operate their fire ladder and a securing harness?.........Obviously NOT! It take a 15 year old young man who indeed, is a HERO to do a man's job....Guess we know know who the "real man" was in this case! I'd also suggest this young man steer his intellect to become a veterinarian and stay away from the big scary red trucks that contain this towns useless idiots. He'll also make more money and do far more good!!!

In this case this firefighters and the Animal welfare charity Scottish SPCA have just made a bad figure!!! What a shame! Luckily there was Kyle to save Diesel, if you expect the valiant firefighters of Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue............

Our cat Woody was found at the top of an 75 ft tree - we live way out in the woods and didn't want to bother our volunteer fire department at 3 a.m. He had been up there three days by the time we located him! So, we cut the tree down!!! Woody now offers zipline school for woodland creatures!

Those firefighters should be ashamed of themselves, a lad of 15 has more courage and compassion than that bunch of wimps put together.

So they can our out fires but rescuing a cat is too dangerous. That is truly pathetic. fire fighters do good things but it is a job and sorry but unlike many because of things like this I just can not think of the as heroes. They do important work but they are really just people doing the job they choose.

Thank good ness this 15 year old boy had a little more compassion than the big brave firefighters.

This is shameful that these firefighters didn't get the poor cat down from the tree. And whats worse, is that they had ladders. And they let this young boy climb the tree to get the cat down. What if he had fallen? And the poor cat had been in the tree for five days, I surprised it didn't fall out of the tree. I'm sure it was weak from not eating. This boy put his own life in danger to save the cat. I would be ashamed if I where these firefighters to let a boy show be up. This boy is more of a man than these men will ever be. The 15 yr.old boy is a real HERO. Great job!!!!

it took a bigger man with more balls than those so call firefighters to show you can get the cat with no ladder, he would be a good firefighter, because he truly care for the babies it prove with actions.

Actually, it's very rare that a cat that gets itself up into a tree, no matter how high up, can't get back down on it's own. This kid is being hailed as a "hero", but what IF he'd not only been injured himself, but somehow scared the cat to climb even higher OR dropped the cat on the way down?

I've wanted to do the same thing when a cat I had got herself about 50' up a huge Douglas Fir. I tried to get to the base of the tree, totally convinced that if I could get to the base, she'd trust me enough to back down, but the tree was about 35' into the woods, with thick blackberry bushes and some deep trenches that I couldn't negotiate at the time with two bad knees and a ladder had no chance of allowing me to get high enough UP to get close. I'd tried and spent about 4 hours with a machete' and loppers without getting anywhere near close enough. I finally decided that it was no use and I'd end up falling and needing rescuing, myself. I called the fire department, Animal Control and got no support.........just told to be patient.

I went to the store in frustration, thinking another couple of hours and maybe I'd figure something else out. Just as I pulled into my driveway where it would around behind my house, something black WHIZZED by my car! It was Spooky and she'd finally had enough up the tree and decided to come down, all on her own, just as I had been told.
