A wildfire in the mountains above Los Angeles is threatening 12,000 buildings and continuing to spread. More than 10,000 people have fled their homes and state governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says the fire is " still totally out of control".

This article puts the California fires into perspective, and I sure hope that Governor Schwarzenegger's honest appraisal does not create panic!!! --------

However, people should know the truth!

This is truly Well put together...Please visit this Site...and you will find out what a raging fire does!!

Just yesterday, I got an E-Mail from my California Disaster Group stating that "Deadly wildfire doubles in size"...so much ruin, so many people running and those that don't run for their lives actually end up either getting the firefighters that are there to do their job hurt or Killed. Wildlife, and animals, photos of horses being led out behind pick up trucks (people who don't have trailers I guess are frantically trying to save their animals).

Just went into the La Mesa Fire Station here an hour ago and that station alone has sent up two units, along with stations all over.

Basically, you got the best detailed story of this fire that I have seen on Care2, and Kudo's you!!!

When a fire hits and this one doesn't even have the Santa Ana winds that are so popular around here around Mid-Sept it just jumps leaps and the embers fly through the air...so scary.

Know all States have their own "Disasters" Floods, toronados, etc, personally, I'm used to Earthquakes living here in San Diego my entire life, but nothing never prepared me for being up for a solid week in Oct 2007 waiting to find out if I have to flee or say put.

Thank you for such a truly FINE JOB...Green Star coming...

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire state of California. What an atrocity for all there. They are already ridden in debt as a state, and now the people are facing a horrendous loss of everything they own, their homes, their possessions, their memories of things like photos, etc. that cannot be replaced. And the Santa Anna Winds have not even arrived yet. I feel for all of them. I saw what one house fire did to our neighbors next door, and I just cannot fathom so many losing everything like that. Plus the brave men and women who are out there risking their lives to save others... my prayers are with them also.

Gotta say one thing - yesterday, I did drive out to an area that is only 20 minutes away from where I live and it was still black from the Oct 2007 fire, looking at that mountain covered mostly in black made me really feel for all of the people watching TV when they see their neighborhood go up in smoke.

The fire comes in so quickly and if someone has forgotton to turn off the gas all of a sudden a home two doors down explods.

My heart aches for all of these people and animals.

Sherbet... it is so important to put in fire breaks in these area, and homes should not be built right up against wooded tree plantations and scrub, there should be a fire break alongside these residences... I hope that all will be well and that no more lives or homes would be lost

I always wonder who starts these fires in CA as it is undreal how many have happened. It seems that people who like to smoke in the forests & drop their cigarettes in the ground start the fires. Many of the people who go through the woods should be watched especially those who smoke. CA is such a beautiful state that it is ashame that this happens all the time.

Just a short update on the Station Fire - that is the one that has the most coverage right now...Tops 140,000 acres, still 22 percent contained...8 day old fire has burned 62 residences, caused 6 injuries and killed two Los Angeles County firefighters.

Wind pick up a bit yesterday, that isn't good, but also the humidity did which helped the firefighters. With no wind (like the type we get around Mid-Sept on to October called Santa Anas they haven't had it spread as fast as it could of.

Here are a couple of links, but you may have to rearrange it, cause I usually type what it looks like and never get it right...

this is on the Station & Morris Fire Photos & Videos (LA Times)

This other one was on The Station Fire's Youtube Channel

Hope it works out for anyone that is interested.

These fires are so outrageous anything that gets in its path will go. I am so thankful for the operations for wildlife in the attempt to retrieve and save our animals, but unfortunately there will be some sad losses. It is a fight every year to contain these uncontrollable wild fires. And almost every year were not sure exactly what kinds of support were going to have from our Government. And itís sad to say but the insurance companies do not go overboard to help the victims with the loss of their homes! Thatís another storieÖ..
