President Obama should have initiated the "Green New Deal" back in 2009 as he promised during Campaign 2008, but instead he thought that throwing money at the problem was/is the answer.

It's only due to Campaign Re-Election 2012 that anything is even being 'said' about it in the first place!

Yes, put people to work. Insulate walls, replace windows, direct rain and runoff to swales and rain gardens, instead of concrete ditches.

BTW. You are quite the propagandist/sneak. Probably that girl that was crying when Obama won. See it on you tube, Right america :feeling wronged. It's like watching the people in Jim Jones cult. Fox told them that everything was over for the white people. At that time, everything was already in down hill motion so fox shut up about the economy long enough to fool the lazy into believing it was Obama's fault. Then the right wing FAIL machine started grinding it's 24/7 gears. It is running against the people today. We feed it with our misguided and hate filled vote for them. HATE is their tool and you get raped for buying it. Those who do because of your actions do too. We MUST band together and end this.

THAT is 100% the Gods truth.

Green Jobs, have done little to nothing to improve our environment in the least. Research the "positive" effects it has on our environment. None. If green jobs are effective and necessary the capitalist market of the U.S. will pick it up and improve it. As of right now we have the government throwing money into these green schemes as a political ploy so that you crazy environmentalists will vote for them. They are not effective, cheap, or usable for our society, which has been proven by the continuous flops of Green Business's throughout the country. Yes, the environment needs to be protected, however the environmentalist movement is now just being used to slowly take over control of private business. It's regulations are destroying business. It's followers are becoming increasingly indoctrinated and blind.

Jason you are an absolute fool who has done nothing to improve our society or even your own intelligence. You lack an understanding of the world in which you live. You are a moronic follower of what "sounds good" as your little picture indicates. Please, just keep your opinions to yourself since you have no control over what you believe and just repeat (proven false) talking points your master's have ordered you to learn.

For a robust and sustainable Green economy, remove all restrictions and prohibitions against cannabis hemp, then get out of the way. In one 3- to 5-month growing season we could provide all the jobs we need, end the drug war, reduce health care costs and begin to heal the environment. What's not to like about it?

America's infrastructure now ranks 16th in the world...

Our nation's infrastructure is crumbling. The Sherman Minton Bridge that spans the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky was shut down last Friday due to safety concerns after cracks were discovered in the bridge's load-bearing parts. The Sherman Minton Bridge is just one of several bridges in danger of collapsing -- As the American Society of Civil Engineers points out, 34% of all the bridges in Kentucky are considered "structurally deficient." Of course - Kentucky is the home state of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell - who opposed increased infrastructure spending in the 2009 stimulus bill - opposed it again when Republicans blocked a jobs bill in 2010 - and threw cold water last week on President Obama's "American Jobs Act" that includes billions in transportation infrastructure products. According to a study by the Urban Land Institute - our nation's infrastructure needs $2 trillion worth of repairs.

And America's infrastructure now ranks 16th in the world according to the World Economic Forum. Yet another consequence of 30 years of Ronald Reagan's "starve the beast" economics.

@Jason ~ you are right. PinkMindy and I are involved in a vast conspiracy to funnel votes from the Green Party to the Republicans. Can we say PARANOIA? Perhaps you are the one drinking the Koolaid. As a Greenie, to hear you say that being a Democrat makes one automatically Green, gave me the much needed laugh for the day. Democrats are just as easily bought and sold as the Repubs. Some of your statements contain so much rage, that it makes me wonder if anger management lessons would be appropriate. And yes, let's give Obama another free pass, shall we? You say he's not responsible for any economic problems? Perhaps you also should get an eye exam.

Good suggestions from the Green Party. If the USA was a freer country, the Greens, Libertarians and even the Constitution Party (which has some very unconstitutional ideas, but also stands for peace) would be able to present their platforms and candidates on a regular basis. Too bad the nation's political system has warped into 1.5 Corporate War Part(ies).

Noam Chomsky on How the Military Is Bankrupting Us and Why Corporate Interests Want to Destroy Public Programs

Noam Chomsky discusses US military adventurism abroad and domestic economic catastrophe.

The following is a transcript of a Noam Chomsky interview on Democracy Now! Chomsky covers a wide range of subjects, including the true cost of America's empire, the significance of Obama's recent jobs proposal, and the real reasons why corporate interests and conservatives are intent on demolishing wildly successful public programs like Social Security.

President Obama sent his new jobs proposal to Congress on Monday with a plan to pay for the $447 billion package by raising taxes on the wealthy. Noam Chomsky says, "The healthcare system...the huge military spending, the very low taxes for the rich [and corporations]...those are fundamental problems that have to be dealt with if there’s going to be anything like successful economic and social development in the United States." As Republican presidential candidate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, calls Social Security a "Ponzi scheme," and Democrats buy into the narrative that the program is in crisis, Chomsky notes that "to worry about a possible problem 30 years from now, which can incidentally be fixed with a little bit of tampering here and there, as was done in 1983, to worry about that just makes absolutely no sense, unless you’re trying to destroy the program."

AMY GOODMAN: Our guest for the hour is MIT professor Noam Chomsky. His latest book is called 9-11: Was There an Alternative? That last question, "Was there an alternative?," referring to the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Aaron?

AARON MATÉ: Well, Noam, you mentioned the changes in discourse between 10 years ago and today. And actually, this issue of the reasons behind 9/11 came up Monday night at the Republican presidential debate. Congress Member Ron Paul of Texas drew boos from the crowd and a rebuke from other candidates on the podium when he criticized U.S. foreign policy in discussing the roots of 9/11.

REP. RON PAUL: We’re under great threat because we occupy so many countries. We’re in 130 countries. We have 900 bases around the world. We’re going broke. The purpose of al-Qaeda was to attack us, invite us over there, where they can target us. And they have been doing it. They have more attacks against us and the American interests per month than occurred in all the years before 9/11. But we’re there, occupying their land. And if we think that we can do that and not have retaliation, we’re kidding ourselves. We have to be honest with ourselves. What would we do if another country, say China, did to us what we do to all those countries over there?

So, this whole idea that the whole Muslim world is responsible for this and they’re attacking us because we’re free and prosperous, that is just not true. Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda have been explicit. They have been explicit, and they wrote and said that we attacked—we attacked America because you had bases on our holy land in Saudi Arabia, you do not give Palestinians a fair treatment, and you have been bombing—I didn’t say that, I’m trying to get you to understand what the motive was behind the bombing. At the same time, we had been bombing and killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for 10 years. Would you be annoyed? If you’re not annoyed, then there’s some problem.

AARON MATÉ: That was Republican Congress Member Ron Paul of Texas speaking Monday night at the Republican presidential debate. Noam Chomsky, your response?

NOAM CHOMSKY: I think what he said is completely uncontroversial. You can read it in government documents. You can find it in polls. Maybe people don’t like to hear it, but, as I mentioned before, it goes back to the 1950s. Actually, right after 9/11, the Wall Street Journal, to its credit, did a study of privileged Muslims, sometimes called "monied Muslims," people in the Muslim world who are deeply embedded in the U.S. global project—lawyers, directors of multinational corporations and so on, not the general population. And it was very much like what Eisenhower was concerned about, and the National Security Council, in the 1950s. There was a lot of antagonism to U.S. policy in the region, partly support of dictators blocking democracy and development, just as the National Security Council concluded in 1958.

Hey! The right started this by hating the party that would have helped them. Gimmee a break! Fox borgs. The ship sailed!
Now. Learn for once in your life.

What America needs is congressional leaders...

Corporate Freeloaders Act

Republicans in the House of Representatives introduced their own "American Jobs Act" - even though a more apt name for their bill would be the "Corporate Freeloaders Act." Congressman Louie Gohmert - famous for his fear mongering over "terror babies" and bestiality - introduced the Republican version of President Obama's jobs plan - and it includes only one provision. No infrastructure spending - no payroll tax cuts - no assistance to states to hire more teachers and police officers - nothing - except for...reducing the corporate tax rate down to zero.

That's right - the Republicans' idea for job creation is letting multi-billion dollar transnational corporations - many of which already pay no American taxes - off the hook from paying any American taxes. They use our roads, our bridges, our schools, our police forces, our courts - but Congressman Gohmert thinks they don't need to pay for any of that stuff - instead, he wants you and me to pay it all. Republicans think if these corporations just had a little more cash - then they'd turn into job creating fairies and save our economy.

But as we know - they're already sitting on $2 trillion worth of cash and not hiring anyone - at least not in America. This isn't a jobs bill - it's a classic Republican handout to Gohmert's top corporate donors.

Sorry, I have no faith in Obama's politics. Why? Just take one "peep" at what he's done to the United States of America in three years time!
His entire "campaign" speech the other night was nothing more than "taxation, taxation, taxation".
All the while Immelt is sitting with Michelle Obama in the First Lady's box. Why is that important? Because he is supposedly Obama's self appointed jobs czar that's why! And how is that important? Because while Obama wants to tax the rich, Immelt and GE get away without paying "billions" of dollars in taxes per year! And how is that important? Because Immelt just contracted thousands of American jobs to China! All this taking place as Obama "opened his mouth" in his recent speech to Congress urging them to "pass his jobs bill NOW"! *uuuhhhem, yeah right!
No way!

Don't take my word for it, the thread speaks for itself. I don't see ONE Conservative or Republican speaking unciviliy anywhere here. That is just fact.
I've learned that when people like Jason R. who uses uncivil discourse as his politics it usually means that he has no idea of what he's talking about and that "attacking someone or using ad hominem and insult" against someone, is all the ammo in his six shooter lol!

I am too much of a leftist to qualify as a "liberal." One might even reasonably assume that I am a socialist. It's disappointing that Obama has abandoned the left, but, despite all the problems of his first term, the simple reality is that Obama has the 2012 election sewn shut. The left and the right do not determine winners; the moderates do. The Republican Party has all but given up on producing a candidate with a reasonable chance of defeating Obama. In fact, given the sheer oddball collection of looney tunes presently running for the GOP nomination, one might be forgiven for assuming that Republicans intend to just give Obama the win. Unless his administration has a mega-mistake, such as "Good job, Brownie," or "I'd rather finish the story here with the children than go see if the nation is under attack," or "Iraq has WMD's, so we must invade...," unless Obama does something like any of these, then he will win. He appeals to the middle in a way that the ends of the spectrum have yet to do.
