UPDATE: As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, five of the remaining six horses have been captured in the pen after BLM employees lured the horses to the pen with buckets of oats. Only the lead mare remains free, but she is nearby and calling to her trapped family. The BLM employees are hand feeding the lead mare as I write. Please continue to take action below calling on the BLM to immediately release these horses to their home range.

The BLM is not solely to blame. Everyone who eats beef is to blame. The horses are being removed because the land is leased out to grase beef on. If we stop eating beef they dont need this land.

To Florence E: Noted, and already signed. The more I learn about the BLM, the more hideous this state agency appears -- as though they were determined to get rid of all wild horses and burros, by either depriving them of their freedom or having them slaughtered, if not both, which is pretty nasty. Although I have heard of the real or supposed motives for doing so, I have no understanding for them, finding the actions of this agency INSUFFERABLE. Why are they taking these horses away when they seem to have coexisted with the local community for so long? What on earth is wrong with these people?!!

To Brenda N.: There is no "beef" grazing anywhere -- these are COWS!!! Otherwise, you are right: Ranchers sure play a part in this problem.

We've lost so many and this mare's plight is again, heart wrenching. Until Salazar goes home, we're in trouble. I agree that cattle are in demand and aside from the grazing land problem, add to greenhouse gasses tremendously. Signed. The BLM and other anti- horse agencies are meciless in their round ups, they are cruel in handling horses. Stop eating meat, cattle are replacing the horses 5 cows to each horse. The BLM lies and needs to be shut down.

Petition signed and shared on FB.This is the BLM relentlessly eradicating our majestic wild horses. They pen them for life in small prisons, and sell our wild icons to Europe for slaughter. "We The People" seem to have no voice in this, only the rich cattle ranchers who use our wild horse range to graze their cattle. This must be stopped, save our wild horses.

Send strong messages to the US Beef Producers indicating that if this horse family is removed, you will remove beef from your diet! Only loss of $ influences.

The BLM only cares about the "coporate sponsors" (1.e. political $) , NOT accountable to the citizens. (by the way, just because the politically bought Supreme Court says "corporations are people" carries the credibility of th US Government saying "area 51" does not exist.WE ARE NO LONGER LIVING IN A COUNTRY WITH A GOVERNMENT "FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE.

Guess the BLM could just leave all those horses on the range and let them fend for themselves. Then what will all of you do when the dead and dieing horses pile up? In spite of the sad and tear jerking stories there is JUST NOT ENOUGH range for all the horses. Go to horse country and see how many people are discarding their own personal horses. I won't argue the issue of cattlemen vs wild range, that is another whole different bag of worms. But when people say the BLM personnel are bad and stupid and walk in their shoes for just a couple of hours and try and work with people like the ones complaining above. Whole different ball game on the other side.
